2016 Draft looking mighty fine, still some question marks, but vast potential

1st round (13th): Sheldon Rankins
After battling a fairly serious injury has returned with Ellerbe and our defense suddenly turns into a different unit.
Limited snaps, 4 games
10 tackles, 5 solo, 2 sacks, 1 FF
2nd round (47th): Michael Thomas
Came in with some questions, but has continued to impress week after week. Had a horrid game where he was directly involved/caused 3 turnovers and a loss, but he has been phenomenal
11 games
65 receptions, 789 yards, 7 TDs, 2 Fumbles (both v Denver)
2nd round (61st): Vonn Bell
After playing limited snaps early on, he has been incorporated into a 3-safety set we continued to run. Plays the ball well, has had up and downs in coverage, but he has been hawking similar to Vaccaro's rookie season. He could be special, but of our top 3 picks he's going to be the only true question mark
11 games
54 tackles, 39 solo, 0.5 sacks, 1 STF, 1 FF, 3 PD
4th round (120th): David Onyemata
The canadian player who was extremely raw and was not going to be a contributor for a few years. When he's been given snaps, I've seen him clog lanes and generate pressure. he's still raw, but he's earning some playing time
11 games
9 tackles, 6 solo
7th round (237th): Daniel Lasco
This was an interesting pick, but for a 7th rounder he has done well. Injured at the moment, but he was a special teams ace, but showed some good vision when he was allowed to get playing time
6 games
11 carries, 32 yards; 2 receptions, 11 yards

1 class in about 30. Not bad odds

They've all been contributors. Rankins, Thomas, Bell are already mainstays.

Pretty sure Onyemata had a sack today
Nevermind...that was Rankins

Arguably the best Payton era draft?

Right now this is the best draft since 2006. What happened to all the ones in between???

Quality certainly beats quantity in the draft. Hope the Saints trade up more often.

I think we need to stop trading up.
We have crap for depth.

We hit 3 starters and 2 positive contributors for 5 picks, we could do a lot worse.
I think if we hit 3 or 4 high snap guys again, we can have depth and potential. Not including the money we can spend which looks enough to lock down two starters.
Looking down the line we need depth/starters at:
Offense:
RB (scatback)
OG (starter or backup if turner comes on well)
Defense:
DE (starter, kihaka is a rotation guy)
LB (rotation or starter, I don't trust Anthony or Ellerbe enough. That leaves us Robertson and Stupar need more..)
DB (starter caliber, breaux and PJ have injury concerns, then it's a bunch of ????)

I just want the tool bag who bragged he'd take my money regarding the Saints-Rams game to show himself on the board.
Nice post though.
Had a great time at the Dome today
