free agency will be very defining. Loomis has a history of getting guys to fill spots to reduce the need factor in drafting. I mean maybe not THE answer say at NT but have a body that can play there. Randy Starks Miami might be that kind of guy that wouldn't be cap busting financially. OLB Shaun Phillips would be my favorite UFA signing. He's 32, so no giant contract. He definitely still has some gas left tho. Brees & Sproles should know if we want him and entice him to join the ex-Bolts if so.

If Bushrod or another UFA LT isn't signed then it becomes a pressing need in the draft or Charlie brown steps in.

Looks like the picks are all over the board right now. The pecking order will settle out after the draft, I think Mingo will certainly be gone.

Wish we had that fricking second rounder. frick you Goodell.

More hope than expectation but I'd go 50/50 right now that one of Mingo or Dion Jordan will be available.

programming note-
some good mocks on page 2 if ya missed them

Walter update since change to 3-4

Dion Jordan- The Saints fired Steve Spagnuolo and announced that they are moving to a 3-4 defense. A new scheme doesn't mean they'll be able to fix their old problems, however. They still need to find a top pass-rusher to make things easier for an overmatched secondary. Dion Jordan makes a ton of sense here as one of the top prospects available.

Ricky Dimon mock -- this guy has a solid track record.

15. NO: Dion Jordan, DE, Oregon
Oregon's offense is what got all the accolades, and for good reason, but Jordan was a force on defense. He may be a bit of a project, but his upside is off the charts.

--starting to settle into the idea of him being the most likely BPA. More worried about the A than the B.

If we cant get Mingo I think we should go for Alex Okafor. 6'4 260 and that is exactly what Aldon Smith was coming out of college.

Dion Jordan would be too much of a project player for us. We need someone who we can plug in and play right away.

He's nothing like Aldon Smith. He's mostly a power rusher, when he's tries to finesse rush it's not very good. I think his game is similar to Will Smith.

agree, I don't see anyone having Okafor rated mid 1st Rd either. Strikes me as more Will Smith-like as well.

Dion Joprdan starting to solidify as the most popular mock pick to the Saints

USA Today

15. New Orleans Saints: Dion Jordan, DE-OLB, Oregon

Jordan's versatility to line up at defensive end or drop into coverage as a linebacker fills a pair of needs for the Saints. Pending surgery on his shoulder could send up red flags

Anyone have any insight about the shoulder?

Does he have a reliable groin is what the whodats want to know.

Both mocks have Jarvis Jones dropping past the Saints. I think if he's there we have to take the chance and take him. Talent like his don't usually drop towards the middle of the 1st round and although there are concerns the Saints might not be in position to grab a talent like him for a while.

they're in a minority on Jones. Even their own story on him potentially falling only sez "The scouts said there are a few reasons that could add up to Jones falling into the 6-10 range." Then they move him from #2 to #17? 6 to 10 I can believe, 17 no. I'm still pegging him as 100% gone before #15. They both still have Dion Jordan to the Saints. That does look increasingly likely as a fit for value and need.

As far as mock talk here's the % of mocks on the top 6-
1- Geno Smith 46%
this one is tumbling down and Iikely will continue out of #1, from my reading KC goes with a vet QB. Smith is definitely not a #1 and a stretch.
2- Damontre Moore 32%
3- Lotulelei 53%
4- Joeckel 49%
5- Werner 28%
6- Jarvis Jones & Werner both 19%

Werner is so good, he's going to get drafted twice.

it's not a probability, it is what % of mockers are picking them at those spots. They just show the leaders. Werner could actually be picked at a higher % at the first 4 spots (more than 28%) and not be shown since he isn't the leader.

Might be a fun draft to watch... there's a handful of players where its really no telling where they can wind up.

yeah, the QB's in this years draft class aren't all that great but I'll bet a few teams will take a chance on a few of them in the first round.

why not? it is all about the QB's these days anyway.

Its weird that Sharrif Floyd has all of a suddenly shot up their boards. Just think what his stock will be like if he has a good combine..

Key for the Saints draft hopes are these QBs. I have one pegged before #15 without a doubt. Two could go though which would nudge the board down. Three taken and our excitement should rise. Be cheering for Tyler Wilson, Glennon, Geno Smith, and Barkley to tear it up big time at the Combine.
