Tough to digest but this is who we are.. money tied up in the wrong guys coupled with numerous horrible drafts will get you there fast. This team has no clue how to win nor has the talent. This will continue for the next several years as long as Loomis is manning the ship

I laugh my arse off at this.

Player wise:
Things are changing. We hired a new draft guru. We had our best draft in years. Our defensive rookies look great. We get a big reciever, a front man pass rusher, and a guard and we'll be fine.

By the end of this season, our defense might be pretty good. They'll start to gel and learn the NFL.

Our offense needs a guard and a reciever. That's it. They couldn't finish a drive yesterday, but they finally started moving the ball.

This a true rebuilding year and it is fun to watch from a football lovers standpoint.

It's probably not so fun to watch from a we must win the superbowl every year and if we don't go 16-0 blow it up because I only watch the Lakers and the Yankees standpoint.

I think the upper management and Payton need to get out of the "win now" mentality with Brees still being there. He is still an elite quarterback. Mentally, he is still extremely sharp, however I don't think he has the physical skills he had 3-4 years ago that allowed him to play at that level. I think the signings of Byrd, Spiller, Browner, etc are all of guys who are on the downslope of their careers who were brought in on a hope of winning one more time with Brees still as the quarterback. Now with his injury, and the FA signings not working out the way the team had hoped, I think the organization needs to move on from the "we are still in the window to win" thought process. The team is akin to a someone who has maxed out their credit cards on questionable purchases, and now needs to spend the next few years paying off the bad spending habits.

Is this the guru who drafted A. Peat in the 1st round instead of La'el Collins in the 7th round?

Am I the only one that thinks Loomis gets way too much of the credit/blame for personnel moves? Payton and the DC of the time have had a ton of input into who we draft, and they replaced the head of scouting with someone that had previously been an NFL GM. If you want to say Loomis/Payton isn't working out that's fair, but a lot of people seem pretty happy with the young talent we acquired this year (first draft with Jeff Ireland), so it's entirely possible the talent evaluation change everyone is demanding has already been made, it just may take some time to see the full results.

No. As I've said before, blaming him for all these things is like blaming the CFO of a company for the hiring decisions of the ceo because he has to sign the paychecks.

Loomis isnt choosing draft picks, he doesn't draw up the schemes, he doesn't develop the players.

And this was our best draft in a long time. I'm excited to see what Ireland can continue to do.

I could be wrong but I think since we started the 13' season 5-0, we are now a whopping 13-19.

Breesus is right. It's OK to voice disappointment and predictions of lengthy doom, but, let's not close our ears and minds to the Voices of Optimism, and I'm not kidding about this.

I give you the fourth Upvote for your post.

Thanks, Breesus, for bringing an alternative view for us to consider.
