If we would have taken care of business at home against the Spurs, do you believe we would have beaten the Lakers and then the Celtics?

Was thinking about that magical season earlier this morning while bored at work.

I do.

I don't think we would've beaten the Celtics, though.

Chris Paul gave the Lakers fits his entire career in NO. We took them to 6 games in 2011, and the two teams went in opposite directions talent wise.

No, we sucked on the road in the playoffs. Lakers had home court

I don't know about Boston, but I felt and still believe we would have beat the Lakers.

CP was playing out of his mind, and would have destroyed the Lakers' guards.
With Tyson holding Pau down a bit it would have been a battle.

No, that Lakers team was legit. Pau/Bynum/Kobe/Odom in their prime.

CP3 in his PRIME though. IDK. Anything could have happened. The Lakers were not the defensive team SAS were. CP3 did average 23/15 on them in the regular season, and we did split the season series. We woulda gotten spanked by Boston though. That's a nightmare matchup.

ETA: I still think that will be CP3s best shot at winning a title in his career.

I have a feeling we beat the Fakers that year. We still managed to beat them after the Gasol trade. I am not sold on the Celtics though.

I think we would have given the Lakers fits; they had a hard time guarding the pick and roll that year, which we ran to perfection.

Beating them would have been a tall task, but it was certainly possible. I think it absolutely would have gone 7. Every Lakers fan I knew was rooting for the Spurs against us, so that says a lot.

The Celtics? Less likely. If I recall we split the season series in 2 barn-burner type games. At that point I just would have been stoked to be there anyway.

Lakers would have been tough in their gym, but it would have been a great series. N.O. would have had a decent shot, imo. I think the Celtics would have been too much, though.

I do remember the last regular season game against the Lakers. Ended up clobbering them. Can still see the fast break in the 4th when Pargo did a no look, backwards between the legs pass to a trailing Chandler who slammed the crap out of it. De-moralized those pricks.

He's had 2 years with a stacked team and hasn't gotten it done.

What makes you think he has a better shot this year?

Their are no teams this year as good as those Lakers or Celtics. The Clippers have been top 5 on offense and defense all year, they are no slouch. People underrate them because they don't like them.

I can assure you nobody outside of the hornets fanbase considered the Hornets title contenders that year.

They upgraded their coaching. Jordan and Griffin are much improved.

Top 5 offense/defense in the regular season doesn't mean much.

We were neck and neck with them all season long. And we did well against them when we weren't so good. So who knows...

We finished what, one or two games out from L.A? Please. We had one of the league's best starting 5s minus Mo Pete that year and had played both Boston and L.A evenly during the season. Had we parlayed our trade deadline deal to someone more effective than Bonzi fricking Wells then whos knows what could have happened.

you can say whatever you want NO ONE outside of a few hornets fans considered that team a contender. And they were right. The majority of the fanbase was thrilled to push SAS to 7, no one was thinking championsip besides a few hornetards.

Portland has one the best starting 5s this year, nobody considers them contenders.

Again Portland has played SAS and OKC evenly, still not considered a contender by anyone outside of their own fanbase(if that).

because being the #2 seed means you weren't even close to being a title contender right?

So OKC isn't one and hell no to Houston being even close to one this year.

57-25 this year, 1st offensively and 14th defensively. +6.9

That team was 56-26, 9th offensively and 5th defensively. +5.3

They had a 3pt expert shooting 44% while taking 7 attempts per game and another player shooting 39-40% shooting 4 attempts per game.

Clippers have crawford (6.5 attempts - 36%) and redick (5 attempts - 39%)

They had a PF that was averaging 20/9 and hitting 48% of his shots

BG is averaging 24/10 hitting 53%

They had a center that was averaging 12/12 with a 62 fg%

Jordan is 10/14 with a 68 fg%

A CP3 that averaged 21/12 while commiting 2.5 TO; 49 fg%

current CP3 is averaging 19/11 while committing 2.3 TO; 47 fg%

not getting more into it, the statlines across the board is roughly the same.

He had a better shot that year because the west wasn't as deep that year. His road this year can be GS, a very good OKC team, and an even better SAS team that beat them in 7.

His current team might be slightly better, but the teams he has to play against are better than the 07-08 year

How old are you? This is clearly not the case. There were 6 teams within 3 games of the top seed in the West. They could've very easily been the 6 seed(ONE Game out of being 6 seed). Would they have been a contender then? No and tehy werent as a 2 either. It's not like the were head and shoulders better than the teams below them. Every playoff team had 50 wins. The Lakers that season were better than any team they have to face in the West this year. And those Celtics are better than this year's Heat team.

No and they proved it by losing in the conference semis to a team who got smoked 4-1 in the next series.
