Will it really take 50 wins for the 8 seed?

This has been the ball park assumption all year, but Phoenix's winning percentage translates to 46 wins and their schedule is going to be getting tougher. OKC hasn't been stumbling, but they also haven't regained form, 5-5 in their last 10 isn't the 70%+ rate many were predicting they'd start winning at to get back in the top 8.

50 wins won't guarantee a spot. I feel like this is going to be one of those seasons where a 50 win team will be sitting at home in May.

No way. Never happened before. 45-47 gets it done.

The current trajectory of the 3 teams fighting for the 8 seed has them all falling short of 50. OKC is .667 in just the games that KD has played in, if you project that over their remaining 38 games, that gets them to 47 wins, so even grading OKC on a curve they don't hit 50. Obviously a team hitting a streak can change the equation, but it looks like 50 is going to be a hard mark to hit for all 3 of the teams chasing the 8 seed.

two 48's, a 46, and two 43 win seasons have missed the playoffs in the west in the last 7 years so............what are you talking about?

A quick run by any one of those team would change their trajectory. I would never count out the Thunders post all-star break. They are more likely to reach 50 wins compared to the Pelicans.

While I definitely see what you're saying of everyone falling short of 50 I absolutely believe that both OKC and PHX are capable of getting really hot and making a strong run in the second half of the season

The Spurs will get healthy and start winning more games and the Mavs will start figuring things out better (Rondo joined the team but only a month ago) and win a few more too

I think it'll take 49, 50, maybe even as high as 52 wins (well 52 may be a little high)

Crazy thing is that I still believe we can reach 50 wins...guess I'm a sunshine pumper

The Spurs and Suns both miss the playoffs. Pels 7 seed, OKC 8th seed.

Write it in stone. Sons.

pels current win pct (.523) translates to 43 wins...so regardless, if trends continue, they'll need 47 to pass the suns. i predict 49 is in and 48 is out

also, they'll likely need 50 or more to keep their pick, as GI so gently corrected me earlier

52 to win the 8th seed is insanity.

Pelicans definitely have to pick it up to stay in the conversation, but this stretch has always been the make or break run of the schedule.

Losses at Boston & Philly really hurt right now. Would be sitting at 25-19 instead of 23-21.

Need some big wins in this stretch of home games. Last night was obviously one of them.
