This team has shown an affinity for this type of collapse much of the season, and expected it to change when the competition got harder?

This is straight down to the horrible coaching job that Monty Williams did and has done.

Anderson is hot? Don't give him the ball.

Cole playing great? Sit him basically the entire 4th quarter and OT.

Can't buy a rebound to save your life? Keep a small ball line up in and refuse to put in legit rebounders.

Why is Evans controlling the ball in key moments? Running the offense through him killed it the entire 4th quarter, and what do you do? Let him control the ball for 90% of OT.

I am a Pelicans fan through and through, but as long as Williams is coach, I have no faith this team will do anything. They had to struggle just to get the 8th seed vs a team in OKC that lost all 3 of its top players for huge chunks of the season including their MVP player for all but 7 games, their defensive stud for the last 20 games, and had basically Westbrook as their entire team and they still nearly pulled it off.

Again, given Monty's history, this isn't shocking.

Shocked a little only because 20 point lead.

There is no big enough lead that's safe with this team. Monty looked clueless

He let Davis sit forever thinking this was done. You don't do that with a team that can get hot any second.

I was trying not to over react but Monty has got to go. That was terrible. Absolutely awful.

Yea.. not sure why people are shocked and angry. Year in and year out, Williams and his teams have consistently blown big leads and lose games. It's the most consistent thing about his coaching.

Why? People definitely have a right to be angry, but anyone with a brain could see that Williams wasn't making any reasonable adjustments in that 4th quarter, and made some decisions that are utterly pathetic.

Does he get bonus points for getting in the playoffs when it came by beating out an OKC team missing an MVP for basically the entire season?

If Durant or even Ibaka aren't hurt, the Pelicans are at home watching the playoffs instead of getting embarrassed in them.

I love this team, but I am not some blind pumper that doesn't recognize they have no shot at winning anything meaningful with the current head coach.

so if we are pissed and shocked that we just blew a 20 point 4th quarter lead at home we are a blind pumper? got it

I said being pissed is understandable. Those shocked that this could happen with Monty as coach are the ones I have issue with. I didn't think it would happen, but seeing it happen isn't something that is unreasonable. It's not a new issue for this team at all under Monty, much less just in this series.

There is a difference between being completely outclassed in every way in a sweep and playing it close and throwing it away. Did I think we'd win the series? No. I did think we'd take a game, and this was always going to be the one to take... And we almost fricking did, too. You can't fault fans for being broken up about it.

wat

They fed him on like 4 straight possessions at one point and were making it a point to get him the ball when he was open?

Cole did play well, but Shaun Livingston (who is 6'7") was getting the better of him offensively and on the offensive glass late in the game

Well you either want the guy who you just said was hot, Ryan Anderson, in there or you want Asik in there?

The Warriors ate up the offensive glass in the 4th, but they werent even being contested by any Pels player. That's a severe mental lapse on their part and in the end cost them the game.

That's not what I meant. I see this team's potential just like the rest of you and really felt like this game was a great turning point once they were up big and Anderson showed he was back, even if just for one night.

The thing is that I am saying being shocked this happened is lying to yourselves. Monty has proven that he can't coach these situations for 4 years now. He's just a bad head coach.

Not really shocked. I mean shite, in the last couple of weeks we blew what? An 18 point lead to Houston, nearly 23 to San Antonio, and now 20, talk about not knowing how to finish. Perhaps they need to watch some 2009 Saints footage.

And went away from him the rest of regulation and most of OT after that. There is a problem.

True, but it's not like the others did any better.

If you aren't going to involve Anderson in the offense, you might as well have had Asik in there. So instead, we didn't go to Anderson and had no rebounding on the other end.

Comes back to poor coaching that has plagued this team for 4 years now.

You can't go to Anderson every possession and expect him to score. It just doesn't work like that. Really, at that point in the game, the offense as a whole was stagnant. We gave the Warriors the ball on 3 or 4 of our first possessions of the 4th quarter and they scored off of the turnovers. Then they proceeded to score like 10 points off offensive rebounds. The landscape of the game totally changed at that point. And even then, they went to Anderson late in the game for the big 3 he hit.

If the Pelicans score 5 more points you'd be one of those people hailing this as the best game they played all year. Instead they lose and you want to be an armchair coach and pick everything that went wrong in hindsight. Go take a nap bubba
