Whats better for the Pels in the long run?
Is it better for the pels to get the 8th seed this year or would yall rather see the Pels get a top 5 pick in the draft?
I know its hard to watch the Pels lose but would this be best?

The top 5 pick won't happen. It's closer to 10 and if it's 10 or playoffs, I'll take playoffs.

we are tied for the 8 worst record. A Top 5 pick is very possible if we wanted it

If we can tank to get at least below 8 I'd go for the pick, but above that I'd rather make the playoffs

If we put up a fight or even win a first round playoff series, that is the best way to recruit free agents

The Likely hood we beat the warriors or spurs in a 7 game series is low

Draft pick. Not even close.

Especially if the hypothetical is top 5 pick.

Yeah but if the season ended today they'd pick 9th. They are more or less a .500 team since that terrible 0-8 start, so I'd expect them to keep climbing. We're not quite past the point of no return for tanking, an AD injury and trading Holiday could change things in an instant, but based on the current trajectory I think the real choice is what htran laid out. Pick 10+ or playoffs, and I think most of us choose playoffs in that scenario as long as they don't trade the draft pick to get there.

thats gonna be the issue
for whatever reason that draft pick seems to be burning a hole in dell's pocket and to be honest the only reason this team sneaks in to the top 8 is that the bottom of the west is crap, not because the pels are all of a sudden a well constructed and well coached team

alas, i fear the worst case scenario...dell trades the pick and they get waxed in round one as an eighth seed, setting us up for nothing better in the years to come

We have a better shot at drafting a franchise SF at picks 8-10 than we do of signing one in Free Agency. How many free agents did we recruit the last time we got swept by GS in the playoffs?

I think there might be a little echo chamber effect making us think that. The Pels being linked to the best player on the trade market doesn't necessarily equate with the pick burning a hole in their pocket. Fortunately most of the players available for trade are guys Gentry probably wouldn't give minutes to anyway.

The Pels also kind of have the 8th seed as their ceiling. They have enough horses to get the 8 seed but even adding a Millsap probably doesn't help you get better than 8th. Demps should do what he's done before at the trade deadline, look for facilitator deals to dump a bad contract like Ajinca and get a useful rotation player back.

I'm still not sure what the Hawks are doing with Millsap. I think they don't want to resign him and will eventually trade him, but can they really tank with a core of Schroeder/Howard? They aren't great but they should be good enough to keep them in the purgatory of the draft that the Kings have been wandering for the past decade. Denver and Atlanta have enough spare wings between them that if they do a Millsap trade it'd be nice to slip in Ajinca and the Philly pick for a wing.

Would this work for everyone?

Pels get - Gallinari & Mike Miller (would buy him out and re-sign Lance)

Nuggets get - Paul Millsap and Tim Hardaway

Hawks get - Kenneth Faried, Tyreke Evans, Alexis Ajinca, Denver 1st and Pels/Philly 2nd

Nuggets want to move Faried, we want to move Tyreke/Ajinca and Hawks want to move the other two - We may have to give up more to get Gallinari (like our 1st) but we are taking an aging Miller in the deal. Denver gets the shooting they want to replace Gallinari and still have Chandler there...also gives them some cap room this offseason if they want to go out and get another wing - Millsap fits better with Jokic/Nurkic than Manaminal too

it's not a bad trade but what does that really do for us? That trade doesn't make us better than an 8th seed at best.

It may not but you're unloading Evans for a guy still in his prime that is a good shooter so gives us the wing we seek and if we don't have to give up our first we can maybe use that in another trade to move Asik or keep it for the draft. You keep Hill and DC that can help hide Gallinari on the defensive side and you dump Ajinca
