Another great trade.

The value in the trade, to me, is Ryan Anderson and what we get with the space we have with no Ariza and no Okafor on the roster.

I can't see how it's anything but great, but it has its detractors. Some wants the amnesty used on one and a salary dump trade on the other. I'm skeptical that the latter could have been done, but that's the main criticism I've heard.

Yeah, the trade really did more for next season than for this season because of the Lewis buyout. With that said, Lewis is turning into an end-of-the-bench type in Miami. He probably goes down as the most overpaid player in the history of the NBA.

He is, to me, Mr. Lockout.

Yup.

He's playing well in limited action, but Louisiana's own Rashard Lewis won't live up to the legacy of other natives who made the HoF, that's for sure.

Getting more and more limited every day.

I think the detractors had an inflated idea of what we could get for Ariza's expiring deal.

Frankly, this deal was about as good as we could get.

Doing things this way likely saved Benson around $14m in cash, given that Oak's value in an amnesty auction would have been low.

It also created roughly $8m in cap room to get Anderson as well as the minutes to put him, Aminu, and others on the court.

It's a little of both, IMHO.

For this season, it means Anderson plus the minutes for Aminu and others to develop.

For next season, that additional $14m of cap space means we can afford to pay one really good player or several decent role-players.

Might as well turn this into a Where are they now? thread.

Ariza is shooting 32% from the field and 23% from 3.

Belinelli has fallen completely out of the rotation in Chicago LINK

Darren Collison was just benched in Dallas LINK

Marcus Thornton hasn't started a game all year in Sacramento

Willie Green IS starting for the Clippers.

Of all those players who'da thunk that Willie Green would be having the best year ever?

To compound it, I read he's sick.

He's says they are just tweaking the lineup.

Battier has an injury, so that could help him get on the court some. That's not exactly high praise for his play, but it's a chance (his last one?).

No. The opposite, sort of. I think they thought a team would absorb him for a couple of second rounders and cash if we got an expiring back.

I think this deal was the best that could be done, especially when you take out the variability of having to rely on someone to take Ariza. This deal was completely in the hands of the team and had a good cap space / salary paid ratio (over $2 in cap space per dead dollar). It just hurts some this year . . . as in 20+% of our salary. No deal is without cost, and I'm a fan.

I don't see how Green is having a better year than Thornton or Collison. They might both come off the bench, but their numbers are way over what Green is doing. Heck, Green's supposed back-up (Crawford) is leading the Clips in scoring, so not sure why starting makes a difference.

I was making a joke. I find it funny that old Willie Green is the lone starter of that group.
