The reference for 50 win teams was the Miami Heat team that won a title after a 50-32 regular season.

Yes...we need some luck.
What if we make it to the Western conference finals and Green pulls a hamstring in game 1 of the first quater or Steph rolls an ankle.
We gotta chance.

Looking to the past is not the answer, as the past never had a team like these Warriors The Cavs are unreal- second best player of all time, just went 12-1 with the best offensive playoff rating of all time and they are about to lose in 4 or 5 by an average margin of 15+ in all likelihood
all this it's absolutely ridiculous they legit have two top five players and two top 20 players in their starting five. With a former perinniel allstar (West) and the finals MVP two years ago coming off the bench. It's a little unreal.

A contender is a team that has a chance to contend for a title. There is literally nothing the Pelicans can do to be a contender in the true sense of the word
I think the most important thing is to be a "contender" in a sense that we are a FA destination & Boogie wants to stay after next season. Thus the "50 wins" goal. I don't think anyone really expects to contend for a title in '17 because the current Warriors squad has at least one more season together. But if we want to be competetive for titles in the future, the early groundwork has to be laid now -- first step is being decent enough to retain Boogie

So we re-sign Jrue, sign George Hill, trade for Covington, sign Reddick as a backup, dump Asik and sign Alex Len?
Why not just add CP3 and Gallinari instead of Hill and Reddick? That would make us more competitive.

The question is what's feasible IRL, and what's realistic. They're similar, but two different questions.
Feasible is best case scenario, swing for the fences and hope you connect.
Realistic involves making moves you know you can make that can get the team to 50 wins provided our medical staff doesn't kill or permanently disfigure anyone else going forward.

Agree 100%, and I that's also what I took from the article and the author's comments in the Reddit thread.

Meh... Monty did that with AD, Reke, Norris Cole, et al.
Got to aim higher than .500 IMO.

Gallo and CP3 will demand max contracts as well as Jrue. Although CP3 and Gallo sounds better than Hill and Redick We couldn't afford them especially if we are looking to resign Boogie.

How do you make that work within the limitations of the cap and what the team is willing to spend if they go over?

How the hell do you expect to sign Jrue, George Hill and JJ Reddick?
Sixers aren't giving away Covington. They really like him.
Nothign about what you proposed is even remotely possible.
