As I was drifting off to sleep last night and the game was getting out of hand, it occurred to me that the Pels seem to be paying dearly for the production we get ... with one huge and obvious exception. I think this is a big reason it is so hard for the team to build: we pay a LOT for the valuables we have, such that our assets are either very pricey or simply unattractive.

Davis - He is in his first contract and as one of the best 5 players on earth, he produces incredible ROI. He is untouchable, of course.

Jrue - I like Jrue and admire his game. His detractors may have some valid points but he's a bona fide upper tier NBA starter. But he sure ain't cheap!

Eric Gordon - we miss him, no doubt, but esepcially with the injuries, EG is unbelievably expensive and hardly productive at all. Rather than a cornerstone, he has been more akin to a finial, and a really pricey one!

Tyreke - I wish he was more aware of matchups, time of game/shot clock, and shot quality, but Evans is another guy who can really play and at times will produce LeBron-eque stat lines. I am a fan. Again, though, another 8-digit salary!

Asik - I love what he brings on D and the boards even if he is basically a stiff on offense, a poor foul shooter, and so-so at best on the catch. And talk about expensive!

Ryno - He checks in at just under 9 mil this season. By Pelicans' standards, he is probably the best "value" on the team outside of Davis. I love Anderson but wow.

Babbitt & Salmons - these are just guys. Nothing more.

Rivers - I want AR to be a real NBA player but at best, the jury is still out.

let's be honest, is there anyone else worth mentioning?

I wonder if this team going to shite after EG's injury increases his stock.

A man can dream.

I think Jrue and Asik are worth the dollars. I love Ryno, but I wonder if this team is better served moving him and collecting more pieces. Reke doesn't fit and costs too much. We would be wise to use those dollars in order to solidify our bench.

It's hard for me to imagine a team giving up enough for Jrue or Asik to equal their value to us. Jrue and Asik fill such critical roles for us, and they're really pricey.

Evans is probably the player who could be coveted enough to really drawn the kind of interest we need. As important as he is to this team, there is a bit of a fit issue.

Ryno? Hmmm. How interested is the league in a flame-throwing stretch 4? one thing we have learned over the last several years of Hornets/pels is that shooters are not as fungible as we would like them to be. I tend to be on the side of hanging onto Ryno - he is not all that expensive - unless he is the piece needed to do a really important deal.
