Sure, I promoted the Brass, and I think it would have been great. But, from the first day the name was suggested, I really didn't have a problem with Pelicans. Now, after watching the video, looking at the various logos, giving it some thought and even discussing it with my wife (she's got taste and knows marketing a bit), I am fully committed.

It's representative of the region. It's kind of a cool looking bird. IT'S OURS!. Meh, we may quibble about the various logos and the color scheme, but Pelicans is going to work fine. Just don't let the red overwhelm the blue and gold.

I'm not a "gear" guy (other than caps and maybe a t-shirt or two), but frick it. I may have to buy something more serious to wear to games if I find some good designs (no jerseys because I don't want to intimidate people with the "gun show" . . . know what I mean?).

Seriously, though, the name is unique and it's actually a positive sign that it's gotten mixed reaction. frick the haters.

ETA: I'm sure you're all happy I took the time to type that post.

to paraphrase Kent Brockman:

I, for one, welcome our new pelican overlords

Just more proof that New Orleanians will like and support anything New Orleans, even if they hate it

Can not agree with you more. You are getting on board with it for all the right reasons.

I don't see how any facet of the rebrand is too outrageous that someone could be completely adverse to it...

I'm really excited to have a "new" team to root for. I'm a Pelican too, man.

I am so with you on "Brass." That would have been so cool on so many levels. Monosyllabic, evocative of the city/region in a way that is both historical and current, and with boundless potential for logos, etc. Sigh . . .

But I suppose Pelicans will do. At least it is connected to the region.

You don't feel like Brass would make us the red-headed step child to Jazz? Like: "We couldn't get it back, so we just went with another word to describe it."

pelicans are a red-headed step child to the hawks/falcons and all other common bird names

if you get original, you end up with the houston texans

I mean, the Falcons and Eagles don't strike me as being too alike.
