Yet another tank post... We are currently both 3 (maybe 3.5 games with tie-breakers) out of the 8th seed and 3 games to being a bottom three team (3.5 to being second to last). ESPN BPI currently has us with a 1.4% chance to make the playoffs and with a 19% chance to draft Top 3. As much as I like winning and hate tanking, I think we should start up the tank. I'm giving them until All Star break to show some turnaround. If we don't, then hopefully we make a trade before the March 1st trade deadline and drive the tank to a top 3 pick.

*League standings showing the 8th seed (Portland) and the last place team (Brooklyn).

*ESPN BPI odds (Western Conference only; 8th to last)

TLDR: When All Star break hits and we still between the 8th seed and a Top 3 pick, I say we tank and/or make trades.

Is there even one person on the "not to tank" side? Just curious

It makes absolutely zero sense to make the playoffs this year. We'll get demolished by the Dubs and not have a lotto pick. We need to lose as much as possible from this point forward.

I'm sick of tanking like most of us, but it's for the best.

me

learn to play as team. two of the better guys were out most of the year.

set the tone for excellence. Buddy and AD. Jrue and Evans. nice core.
need a real defending center. or a beast power forward.
one inside player away from competing with the best of them.

Certainly beating the Cavs and Spurs says they can compete as is.

Do your best. always.

Tanking should be the only option. I think the only question is trading or making a run at Jrue in the off-season

I tried to find one sentence I agreed with. Genuinely did, but I couldn't. Aside from maybe the mantra of always doing your best.

I have a very hard time pulling for my team to lose. I get that it might for the best but just cannot do it.

But I would be in favor of playing the rookies more to get them up to speed. Figure out if Check can replace Jones or DMO since we will not be able to resign both.

Figure out if we are going to keep Jrue or Evans.

And some how get rid of Ajenca or Asik.

And keep our pick

I can when you see this draft class and the potential of what this team could be if we can get one of these top 5 guys. I care about the future not some present time shitty 8 seed just to get swept by GS

Only reason I can think of not to tank is that I have a 6 year old who loves this team and is super competitive. Its hard for me to root for them to lose when he is rooting for them to win every game. I just don't want to have to explain tanking to him! With that said, tank away!

Don't you want your kid to be happy when he is 10 though? And he won't even remember his sad six year old nights.

We need to tank hard. There's too much talent this year to miss out on a key piece. This is the year where you can draft a wing we desperately needed for years now or an elite 6th man like Monk... and if you get lucky, you grab one of the elite point guards. This is probably our best shot to grab a legit wing in the draft and we better waste away the opportunity...

My only hesitation is I just don't have faith in this regime to draft a 19 year old. As good as these guys might be in the future, they aren't going to help you win until year 3 at the earliest.

My gut feeling would be that they look to move the pick for a "young vet". And if that's Jimmy Butler, cool. But if it's lesser guys like when Washington traded their pick for Mike Miller and Randy Foye, that will suck

Bulls aren't trading butler for a pick unless it's the number 1 pick

I would say number one or two, yeah

But that's my point--- What does this team do if they land at 6? Take Isaac or Tatum and hope they are ready to help you win in 2020? Hope those guys don't turn into Justice Winslow?

I just don't see it and there are no upperclassman worth taking. I just don't trust they will take a kid and wait three years over trading it for like Damarre Carroll and Norman Powell

This year isn't like 3 years ago when we were fighting for the 8th seed and won. That team had potential going forward, and they won 45 games that year. That year should have helped propel them going forward. Instead they resigned two dumbass's at center, as well as Luke Babbitt and Alonzo Gee. Almost $20M to 4 players that are literally worthless. you can argue that they had to sign Asik b/c of salary reason or whatever. Kevin Seraphin was available for less the $2.8M the last 2 offseasons. he's 10x's better than the two worthless $16M centers we have.

This years team does not have potential for next year if they resign Jrue. They do that and they have little money to do anything else, which would basically be saying we are content with maybe winning 40 games, assuming people stay healthy.
A Jrue/AD team isnt' doing anything. This team does not have potential for next year, or the next, until they get rid of the worthless contracts they have in Asik/Ajinca and Hill as well. I wouldn't mind Hill if we had already had a young up and coming SF like a Otto Porter, or even Kelly Oubre on the team already. The only way to get those guys is in the draft, since we have no cap space, or assets to make trades.

making the playoffs as a 36 win team with very little potential for the next year is pointless. I want a top 5 pick, and I want a pick in the teens as well, and I want to keep both of the god damn 2nd round picks.

Look how much of a tone for excellence we set last time we got the 8th seed. Plus Tyreke and Jrue might not be here next year.

They say developing the ability to delay gratification is one of the biggest determinants of success in adulthood lol.

just depends on what we mean by "tank"

sell all non-Davis players for future picks/better draft slot this year? no thanks. hope for a Davis/Holiday injury? frick no. move tangential assets for longer term pieces? sure

moves should be made with an eye for the next 3-5 years. same time, i just don't think you can brazenly dump good players for more ping pong balls this year and keep Davis happy long term.

So the core is 3 slightly above average guards and AD? I feel like we tried this once before.
