so Reke is a better defender than Jrue, and better on offense. ok.
Asik and Ajinca are better on offense than Terrance Beast? ok.

Yeah it's a neat idea, but the graphs can be misleading. Example, on the Warriors graph Curry grades higher than Klay on defense. On the Rockets graph, Harden grades better than expected due to his high amount of defensive rebounds.

what stats or observations do you have against this statement

I wouldn't be surprised if you can find stats that show curry is better on defense than Klay.
Thompson gaurds the opponents best wing player. They put curry on the worst offensive player they can.

you dont' need stats to tell you that Klay is a better defender than Curry. He is.

Celtic, I think you replied before my edit. I had it backwards. They rate Curry as a better defender than Klay according to this TPA graph.

Ajinca played good defense? Am I missing something?

The Warriors switch everything. So curry has to hold his own.

I feel like people still treat Curry's defense like it is 2013.

Both Curry and Klay got off to a rocky start this season so I think that is a big contributor to those ratings. But overall Curry has become a really good defender.

I wish I could find the article but one of the best "lol, gotcha" moments last season was when Westbrook talked shite about Curry's defense and they dug in and found out when Curry guarded Westbrook his efficiency took a notable hit. Much more then Westbrook on Curry and one of the best last year for his position.

here's the thing though...
they arent top 10 defense (#8 DRTG right now) without hill playing big minutes. the question is, how many minutes from hill are required to play decent team defense?

he's averaging 27 mpg so far.
if that was 20 mpg, would the team's ORTG go up? if so, would it make up for a slip in defense?

this team is better when:

A) they play small
B) they make 3's and layups

there's a mix somewhere in there that COULD result in wins

If AD stays healthy.

They play Solo/DC together, but they are kind of interchangeable and drain the offense. Hopefully Solo can get more confident on offense and better shooting at some point as he is stronger than DC driving to the basket, but playing those 2 together really limits the offense and you have AD guarding centers.

exactly

dante's improving shot notwithstanding (improved from non-existant to "hey look at that he made one"), plying those two together is crippling the offense. but look at jones/Dmo's position on that chart, just since january. somewhere in there is a primary lineup that can play defense well enough and can score, and that primary lineup might be one we havent seen yet

The problem is he's still a low volume shooter even though he's a decent 3 point shooter now. He's taking just 1 more shot this year compared to last year, and he's barely getting to the FT line so he's become almost exclusively a jump shooter. I think Hill will run into the same low volume wall as Cunningham even if he improves his 3. For Hill to be the starter and not the backup long term he needs to get his 3P% to 36% or higher and he needs to learn how to finish those drives.

right, we need high-volume/high efficiency players on the court with davis, who can also play average defense. you're gonna get bad shots, you can live with that if the good shots go in

what i'm getting at is maybe the staring/finishing/primary five should be evans/holiday/davis/DMo/jones IF they can defend.

can they?

Remove Jones and add in galloway/Hield/Moore whoever is hot.

Tyreke isn't going to defend the LeBron's well but he's athletic enough to handle your average sf.
