for the record, it stands for non-injured reserve. It's well within the white lined boundaries.

I'm a lifelong Duke fan and hated the pick. Rivers was so inefficient at Duke. The upside is there and he's young, but he's so far away.

It's a good thing we picked up Vasquez' option for next season, so he will only be making $2.1M next season. If we pick up his option for the 14/15 season, then he will only be making $3.2M.

If he continues this type of play, he will probably get a Lin type contract after that and I'm not sure I want to pay $8M for Vasquez.

doubt it...Lin is worth 5 mil in player salary and an extra 3 mil in jersey/ticket sales. that's why they paid him 8. the most GV will command is 5 mil, unless he keep up the pace he's playing in january. in which case, he's worth it.

Is it though? The only "raw-talent" I have seen from him is his ability to get to the basket. He couldn't shoot at Duke, couldn't dribble left, was a turnover machine and was a mediocre defender.

I understand that he can improve off of those things but only so much.

The single most valuable asset in the NBA.

He couldn't shoot at Duke

The easiest flaw to fix in the NBA.

quote:

couldn't dribble left

Can be fixed, but not as easy as the shot. There's going left to the rim, going left for a pull up, step back going left, finishing with the left, etc. He doesn't have any of that. That's a lot of pieces to put together.

quote:

turnover machine

Second reason I hated the pick.

quote:

mediocre defender

Easily fixed.

I still hate the pick. Even though there was not much left at 10. I liked Sullinger (undervalued), Zeller, and Kendall Marshall, who I thought had more upside at the point than Rivers and would be a nice pair to Davis. He hasn't panned out either b/c he can't shoot, so we'll see.

Are you a first time Hornets fan this year or something, because that's not even close to disgusting in terms of unfair compensation.

I agree, we will almost certainly pick up his contract for the next two years, which is a great thing for us and a bad thing for him. He was "old" coming into the league and will be 28-ish when he's a FA.

I think he'll get paid a good amount because that will be probably his only "big" contract. If he continues this level of play and this team gets better, he'll be making 8 per easily.

Yeah, single out any one of those things and it can be fixed, but all of that needs to be fixed and that is a lot to ask.

If Rivers evolves into a competent backup combo-guard in the future, I think we should be happy. Anybody that thought this guy was going to be our starting PG when we drafted him was fooling himself.
