Thoughts?

Asik
Frazier
Jones

for

Shumpert
Liggins

quote:

Depending on who is involved in the trade scenario, the Pelicans could start Shumpert at shooting guard or small forward to set the tone defensively. Shumpert will be an elite catch-and-shoot player who, unlike Buddy Hield, isn’t a ball-dominant guard.
The Cavs could trade for a package that includes speedy point guard Tim Frazier and center Alexis Ajinca, though they could swing for the fences and go for Holiday.

quote:

Don’t be mistaken. The Cavs want to keep Shumpert. If they can trade for Frazier or Ajinca and absorb their salary into a traded player exception (TPE), they should and will.

LINK

quote:

While a point guard upgrade could appease James’ needs, what he really wants is another player that can do a lot of things in the front court. One guy that he and the Cavaliers could have their eye on is New Orleans Pelicans power forward Terrence Jones.

quote:

It’s the same guys being put on the trading block, someone like Shumpert or Channing Frye could be what it would take to get Jones out of the Big Easy and into Cleveland for the playoff push.

Deandre Liggins: point guard insurance cleveland cavaliers need
quote:

He was being compared to Tony Allen, Patrick Beverley and Matthew Dellavedova himself for his defensive grit. LeBron James thinks he’s a “diamond in the rough“, Kyrie Irving appreciated his role in suffocating opposing point guards.

Does Liggins actually play point? I thought he was a SG considering he's 6'6".

If so...we dump Asik and replace his salary with Shumpert who while not even close to an ideal player is at least a useful (and tradeable) one...yeah.

What about...?

Pels trade Jones & Ajinca
Nets trade Foye
Cavs trade Liggins & Shumpert

Pels get Liggins & Foye
Nets get Ajinca & Shumpert
Cavs get Jones

ETA: Wonder if instead of Foye we can throw in a pick and get Bogdanovic

But Demps has pulled players as useful as Shumpert off the scrap heap many times before. Stretching Asik and finding the next BDJ/Ennis is at least $5 million cheaper than turning Asik into Shumpert. I'd rather do Jones and Ajinca for the next 1st they have available.

Not sure i'd like that over doing somethign for cap space, but it isn't terrible.
I'm not a big Shumpert fan for this team, i mean he's basically Hill and DC.

he's a 32% 3 point shooter for his career, except for two seasons 6 years apart where he shot 40%. doesn't compute.

It would be hard for me not to rejoice after getting rid of Asik.

I'm pretty sure Liggins backs up Irving at PG. But, yeah, I think he's generally thought of as a SG first. I guess that makes him a combo guard.

Dead to start with because we can't trade 2018 before the 2017 pick is made.

As far as talent this is a solid deal. I don't think Asik is useful to them really, but Gilbert would probably stretch him.

Jones and Frazier would play a lot of minutes for the Cavs imo.

One of those links mentions that Casspi played with LeBron for 2 years and could be a good fit next to him. It also talks about T Jones being a good fit.

So how about:
Casspi (wondering if he can be traded)/T Jones/Asik
for
Shumpert/Jefferson (or Liggins)

Money works. Selfishly I want to keep Frazier and Ajinca (just bc it means getting rid of Asik) and add and respected vet like R Jefferson
