I know doing a S&T has to be A) mutually beneficial for the teams and B) agreed to by the player but I was reading today the Raptors need for a PF and outside shooters.

This got me wondering they'd be a good S&T partner to send them Ryno and we get back Ross.

Also, if DeRozan were to sign elsewhere I'm also wondering if something with Gordon would be possible with maybe Patrick Patterson coming back to us. Thoughts?

Derozan has pretty much said he's not taking any other meetings and will resign with Toronto barring a major disparity.

Any S&T would be probably for contract reasons. Mythical 2nd rounders that never get conveyed, the rights to Euros that will never come over, etc.

Probably won't be one at all though.

I have been through this before, but we are highly unlikely to do a. S&T. Everyone has cap space and under the new CBA S&T provides no contractual benefits. If S&T, Ryno gets 4 years and standard raises. Since everyone has cap space we would have to find one of the few teams without space that wants Ryno and he wants to play for them and they have something we want in return.

I don't see Ryno wanting to play in TOR as he's not a cold weather guy. I also don't think he fits in TOR defensively with JV. Don't see EJ wanting to play in TOR more than other places or Masai offering him more money than other places.

Expecting to get value from a S&T this offseason is a pipe dream.

The one team I've been hearing smoke about on a S&T would be the Wolves, who are looking at moving Ricky Rubio and may be interested in a S&T of Ryno in return.

Why, exactly, we'd want to pay $12m+ for three seasons to a middling point guard when we already have a couple of them is a question, though. Gentry would pretty much have to see Rubio's distribution as a big part of the new faster offense and thinks his surgically repaired ankle will hold up (he missed a ton of games two seasons ago but played 70+ games last season after off-season ankle surgery).

Not sure where you are hearing smoke from, but It appears the Wolves have space to sign Ryno outright if they want. No need to trade Rubio. Giving us Rubio then would be a pure dump, but Rubio has real value. Also doubt Ryno wants to play for Minny due to location and if he can't take some criticism from Erman he'd be in a world of hurt playing for his mentor.

Is Anderson really ranking teams based on the weather? That just can't be true. Is that why he didn't want to get traded to the Cavs at the deadline? Cause its too cold..

I think location comes into play for him. He really wants to be closer to family and greatly prefers warmer weather. Work-life balance is important to him. I don't think he would pass up an amazing opportunity in a cold weather city, but better climates closer to CA will likely get preference all else being equal.

Thanks for the insight..while I have a pretty decent understanding of how the cap works and fit I'm still learning.

With so many teams with an abundance of cap space, there aren't many incentives for a team to do a S&T. Most teams can just outright sign a guy.

sign and trade benefits the player if there is a better contract to be signed with his existing team vs the new team. So you can believe agents will still be pushing for them. Whether that means any get done is TBD of course

There is no contractual benefit to a S&T. Only the team can sign a player to a 5 year deal with enhanced raises. If that team does a S&T then the player gets 4 years and standard raises.

Monroe would make the defense even worse

You'd be giving up assets for a poor fit

There are still benefits to S&T I think you may be overlooking. If it is not beneficial to one party, it means it is to another.

What does that mean? The contractual benefits of a team signing their bird rights player (5th year and larger raises) are not available in a S&T situation under the CBA.
