What happened for this thread to be made

Combine our loss 2 nights ago with Portland beating Denver last night and Portland has a sizeable 5 game lead with 8 games to go and most of their remaining games at home:

Houston
Phoenix
@Minny
@Utah
Minny
Utah
San Antonio
New Orleans

The Pels would need to win out and the Blazers would need to lose 4 of the games I listed above plus the last one vs the Pels. Portland going from 8-2 in the last 10 to 3-5 over the next 8 is probably the easy part of the equation. The Pels are out of games they can drop.

Are they firing up the tank 2 weeks too late?

Solomon Hill downgraded to questionable tonight vs Dallas with right foot soreness. DeMarcus Cousins (R ankle sprain) is also questionable.

This would be the first game he has missed this season. Interesting to see how the D performs without him for the entire game. Particularly interested in transition D.

Not that I hope this happens - I don't - but there's still a small chance Lillard gets injured and has to miss the rest of the regular season.

Barring that happening and Portland going on a losing streak while Pels win every remaining game including GS, team won't sniff playoffs.

Best course of action is as someone else said, keep trying to develop chemistry and use these remaining games to help make a decision on what to do this offseason.

Not to derail the thread, but I am consistently confused by Boogie. I'm from Mobile, so I have kept up with him over the years and he just always looks incredibly angry. We all know he's irritable, but he doesn't even seem to enjoy playing basketball. Maybe that's just his disposition?

Some guys play better angry. Maybe Boogie is one of them and knows it? Just a guess.

We almost need to win out while Portland loses out. That won't happen. Portland has won 8 of their last 10 and they're playing to get to .500 before the season ends. I'd give the Pels about a 0.1% chance of making the playoffs. We can go 2-0 against Denver and finish 9th in the west. Solid improvement in the last 10 games and they have a chance to take more strides forward in the remaining games if they achieve that. They can get some solid momentum going and come back next year and be a 45-50 win team. At their current rate that's about where I see them next year. Hopefully that'll be their floor.

It's improvement

Need them to go 2-5 and for the Pels to go 5-1, before the last game of the season.

Portland losing to Houston, Utah twice, and San Antonio is very possible.

Pels going 5-1 with a loss to Golden State is also very possible.

But even if both of those things happen going we are still a game back right? So either we need to beat Golden State or Portland needs to drop another game.

Problem is, the Jazz are the only ones in that group playing for playoff standing.

Harden is playing for MVP, but yeah, the Spurs may play their B team. We have to hope the Timberwolves take one.

If we are one game back going into the Portland game, we would have the same record after a win but we would own the tiebreaker.

another way to say it is that, the Blazers need to win 4 of their last 8 to eliminate the Pelicans

but if Portland goes 3-4 in the next seven games and the Pelicans go 6-0, the winner of the final game of the season between them will go to the playoffs

I'm not including because they need to win 5 of their last 8 to eliminate the Pelicans. But they play us twice, the Thunder twice, the Rockets, and Heat.

But ultimately the Pelicans have to win out.

oh absolutely, look at what he did last night after that missed call on Noel. Next possession he called for the ball, Noel posted him up and Boogie just overpowered him and violently turns towards that basket to finish. You could tell Noel wanted no part of defending him at the moment
