There's plenty of room in there to A) Pay Jrue and his brother or B) Chase Kyle Lowry (#1 choice), George Hill, or Jeff Teague as a consolation. Plus, I'd say there's enough room to get some mid-level role guys like we did last summer (James Young, Ben McLemore perhaps)

I don't think you know how to look at numbers. Show me where you can create $40m in space while keeping Jrue.

'm not against stretching Asik, but I have no idea why you want to do it preemptively. That $3.5 million is on your cap for 7 years. Try to find another path first.

Presumably he gets easier to trade as the team doesn't have the cap hit length from the stretch provision to deal with and gets to pay Asik $11m less to do nothing for the team that trades for him. If he has any value in a trade this year, that value only increases the following off-season. Carrying any able body into the summer we'll have to pay Cousins makes more sense. Gives us the money on the books to trade with an outgoing first round pick (*sigh* again) in any potential trade for an existing contracted player. It would have to be going TERRIBLY injury wise to just stretch him out of nowhere. Even then, what you bring up are smarter plays. Ajinca/Pondexter/and Hardship Exceptions would be ideal.
