And a FO would never ask a coach to do that.

I don't believe for a second that the FO was stupid enough to ask if he wanted to stay on as an assistant coach. I can believe they asked if he wanted to stay on in a player development role as an asst. GM.

I think Monty isn't going to find another HC position without going somewhere as an assistant for a few years.

So what were we without him? A 55 win team? 60 wins?

This wasn't his first year coaching here

And we had the 5th ranked MVP on the team, any coach can atleast get 45 wins with AD. Not to mention the Pelicans actually have a solid roster

I guess it just goes to show that it's not what you say, but how you say it. Maybe you need to brush up on those people skills.

That and the fact that you're trying to make yourself out to be a victim when no one is agreeing with the OP here either.

I really want Monty to be an assistant for us, more of a player personal assistant coach

No playcalling or strategy

Monty's end of game strategy and lineups were mind boggling, but he did have the ability to draw up some nice sets; especially after timeouts

If we are talking rumors, from what I hear they like Gentry. JVG is preferred choice, but he wants more control than Dell is comfortable with.

The question was how many games would a good coach have won?

Dallas has an elite coach and was relatively healthy. They won 50 games. With all of our injuries, and a different coach, should the Pelicans have been as good as Dallas?

San Antonio won 55 games. With a good coach, and our injuries, should the Pelicans have been as good as San Antonio?

If this stops the team from getting the best coach possible, that's gonna be annoying.

Yes a better coach we would of been better than Dallas, and don't compare anything to Pops. The regular season is a joke to pops... All he cares about is playoffs

A good coach competes in the playoffs, a good coach beats sub .500 teams ( consistently), a good coach would of seen how terrible Anderson was on defense and how he hurt our team, a good coach would of done anything to try and fit a defense that helps Asik, a good coach wouldn't let Tyreke do half of the dumb crap he did, a good coach would see that our playoff push was due to Pondexter hitting a lot of 3's... But yet in the playoffs I do not think he hit one 3.

Is Monty a terrible head coach? No

Will Monty ever be considered an above average or better Head coach? No

Will any new coach we bring in show instant improvement on defense and offense? YES

Unless the whole team gets hurt again will we win more than 50 games ? YES

I'm told he was offered an opportunity to stay with the organization in some capacity. The "assistant coach" was just speculation. The person who said it is as much on the inside as you can get. I certainly wasn't in the room, though.

That's like telling your long term girlfriend that you would like to just be FWB.

Oh well damn. That's a huge speculation. Not nearly as demoralizing to be moved to the FO versus being demoted to assistant coach.

never happens

Forget the assistant part, but something was offered.

It may not happen, ultimately. But I wouldn't bet serious money on Dell holding the GM title two or three years from now.

I am seriously going to melt if this hire is made.

Just don't have any trust in someone too far removed from coaching in this league.
