Per Shams.
It's buried in the other Rondo thread, I'm not sure many are still looking at that.

I was expecting 4 million so not bad at all imo

Any production we get out of him is gravy for that price. Asik wipes his arse with $3.3 million.

So how much exception space do we have now?

Bobby Marks: The $3.3M Rajon Rondo contract now has the Pelicans $486K below the luxury tax. New Orleans has 12 guaranteed and 3 non-guaranteed/partial contracts. The protection on Axel Toupane will increase to $200K if not waived by July 25. In addition the contract of Quinn Cook will become guaranteed $100K if he is not waived by July 25. Both players currently count $50K against the Pelicans guaranteed money. – via ESPN

QPon better get back on the court or we'll need to send his corpse to Brooklyn for cap purposes.

Even if he never played still better than QP and Asik

Can still use our trade exceptions too
Posted on 7/19/17 at 9:04 pm to Machine
We can but we aren't going to unless we dump multiple contracts.

I don't see any way that Toupane survives that July 25th date.

So you're saying I should prep a "thank you for your service to the Pelicans, Toupane & Cook" post within the next few days

I think Cook has earned a spot on this team. Toupane gone

Damn that is friendly news for our front office. I guess Ill be the first to say it, thx for not trying to frick us financially, Rondo. Goes to show that he is here for the teams sake.
Edit: I know his market is low, but he could have gotten paid more somewhere else. Maybe not much more, but definitely more.

Awesome. Rondo was a great pickup. And at 3.3 million? Unreal.
He definitely went with the best chance for success and not too dollar. We are lucky to get a legit NBA player to play for us for that cheap.
Rondo has got to see that he can play with us, and have two bigs to feed, as chance to re-upp his pay scale.
If he balls though we should pay to keep him, still cheap lol. But like 8-10 mill a year or something. Unless we can get someone better, like wall or something crazy.

This was a great pickup for the pels. These are the types of players you need to start filling a roster with to win in the playoffs

So he is a candidate next offseason if he works out for a good portion of the MLE?
If they keep Asik maybe they can trade him at the 2018-2019 deadline with Ajinca to bring back another decent role player wing.
Then you have 2018-2019
Starters
Rondo - somewhere between $5-$8.5 mm
Holiday - $25.0 mm
Hill - $12.8 mm
Davis - $25.4 mm
Cousins - $30.6 mm
Bench
Moore - $8.8 mm
Diallo - $1.5 mm
Miller - $1.7 mm
Jackson - $1.3 mm
Cook - $1.7 mm
Crawford $1.5 mm
Deadline Trade Contracts
Asik - $11.2 mm
Anjinca - $5.3 mm
For hopefully a role player wing
I think they will be competitive this season, but look to use their picks to draft young prospects. Then use the expiring of Asik and Ajinca to get a solid player from a team needing cap relief.
