TBW just put out an article and based on a combination of team need and having a 1st round pick to send us, the list of potential trade partners for Ryno is pretty limited. Toronto, Boston, and Indy. LINK

The article suggests it's best to stay away from Toronto and Boston as those GMs have a reputation as good GMs and we'd get swindled, but it's not like a trade is a negotiate off. We have the leverage if we have the commodity others want. I will say that I don't like Demps' tendency to look for the win win, it shows a lack of killer instinct that is present throughout the roster, but there's no reason for the team to get swindled when there are more buyers than sellers.

Still, I could live with Budinger, Hill and Indy's 1st for Ryno. Not the best return, but it'd be acceptable.

Could definitely live with that.

What about Washington? Nene hasn't been healthy this year so they could use a stretch 4 and have their 1st round pick.

Nene for Anderson doesn't work straight up but the Blazers could help out. Would you give up a 2nd and Anderson if it meant getting a 1st?

NO gets: 2016 1st from Was (probably top 7-14 protected)
WAS gets: Ryan Anderson
POR gets: Nene's contract, 2017 2nd rounder from Was, and one of NO's 2nd rounders (seems like there are several to choose from)

Here are some suggestions from a Raptors blog

quote:

New Orleans Pelicans – Ryan Anderson

The trade: Patrick Patterson and the Raptors 2016 1st-round pick for Ryan Anderson (Alternatively: Patrick Patterson and Terrence Ross for Ryan Anderson, Dante Cunningham, and Denver’s 2016 2nd-round pick)

...Final thoughts: I know there are some who are really high on Anderson as a fit for the Raptors, and I explored the trade for that reason. Personally, I don’t think he raises the ceiling enough over the next four months to warrant surrendering a major asset (a first-round pick) or an important potential trade chip entering the summer (Ross). But since a lot of you are high on him, there are your frameworks.

LINK /

On the one hand I agree with the blogger, a market like Toronto can't waste draft assets on a rental. On the other hand the East is wide open. A Lebron injury or slump could put you in the Finals. If something like that happened you'd regret holding onto that draft pick and not having a guy that can drop 30 on any given night coming off your bench.

We don't need your help. If we make it a 3 way it should be with Phoenix. PHX gets Nene and our 2nd, Washington gets Ryno and the Pels get Markief Morris and Washington's 1st.

From the Toronto Sun:

quote:

In addition to their own first-round picks this year and next, the Raptors also own a potential lottery pick via the New York Knicks or Denver Nuggets (Denver keeps the better of the two selections) and a lottery-protected first from the Los Angeles Clippers in 2017.

With two rookies currently on board (Delon Wright and Norman Powell), along with Bruno Caboclo, Lucas Nogueira and the still-young Anthony Bennett, how many greenhorns can one organization, aiming to make its mark in the playoffs, have on hand?

While a source who would know said the Raps will not be adding four more rookies over the next two seasons — meaning there will be an opening for a move — value will need to be coming back and a pick will not be dealt cheaply just because of the need for assistance.

Despite that claim, multiple other sources told the Toronto Sun that a rental would be highly unlikely if a pick were involved.
LINK
So basically what I learned from that is that the Raptors may or may not be willing to trade one of their 4 1st round picks over the next two years for another player.

In all seriousness, it is a good point that they have so many young players, plus 4 upcoming 1st round picks. You have to think that makes it likely for them to deal one for a vet. I don't see them trading it for Ryno without some confidence of him re-signing there. Does guy from California, who then played in Orlando and New Orleans want to stay long term up north in Toronto?

Besides your 3-way with Phoenix doesn't work salary wise.

He plays good defense occasionally and he can shoot an open 3, but he is not a great fit for this roster. From all accounts he has loads of athleticism, but no heart or brain. He lacks drive to better himself, disappears/slacks off frequently, is soft, and has low IQ. I think he could be a bench player, but we need high IQ guys with leadership traits and $11M would really limit what we can do in FA. Raptors fans would be glad to jettison him.

According the the trade machine you only need Phoenix to send out $900k more, so pick a minimum guy.

All indications are that Morris is a negative asset. We would be giving them a high 2nd when everyone else is offering an expiring at best and many might be asking for sweetener to take him according to people like Zach Lowe and whatever ESPN guy he had on his podcast when they were discussing this a few weeks ago.

But you don't know if paying a much higher salary/buyout for Nene is worth a 2nd round pick to them. I think realistically just trading Morris for a lesser or similar expiring like Anderson would be more likely for them.

If this is a deadline deal, you've only got about 35% of the money left to pay. Nene vs. Morris is about a $1.5 million difference in the last 35%, so you're right, that could matter to someone like Sarver and they don't really have any contracts to straight dump and make up for it.

I imagine this is only going to get worse but with the latest CBA it seems like a lot of teams have contracts that are way too big or way too small and that makes trades very difficult. It's going to get even worse when the higher max contracts start with the cap shooting up.

I know I'm probably being annoying as a Blazer fan posting in a Pelicans forum but the Blazers are one of the few teams right now that can help facilitate trades when other teams don't want to take on salary like the 76ers have been doing the last couple years.

For example if Sarver didn't want to take on that extra money that same trade you proposed could still happen just with Nene's contract going to Portland (with some other small compensation for doing so) and Phoenix gets rid of Morris without having to pay anything.

You're being constructive at least, and if Sarver wants money more than winning as he's shown in the past, just make it a 4 team trade like you said. Phoenix flips our 2nd for $2.8 million in salary savings by taking nothing back for Morris.

Something I think we are missing out on as we look towards the draft so much, is how terrible the 76ers, Lakers, Suns, TWolves, Nuggets, Bucks, Blazers, Wizards, Hornets, etc... are all playing right now... even before some of them unload pieces.

Forget the playoffs, we're within 4-5 wins of drafting 10th or later.
I'm starting to think trading our 1st round pick should be back in play, only top 3 protected. Boston has been talking about Dwight Howard. They are 1 game out of the playoffs right now. Sacramento is ready to "move on" from Demarcus Cousins. Let's use Boston's expirings and late firsts, along with our pick to help us get Boogie+. BLOCKBUSTER TIME!

This Trade is Successful!: ESPN
New Orleans Pelicans acquire:
Demarcus Cousins $15.9M C 3 Years
KJ McDaniels $3.2M SG 3 Years
Sacramento Kings acquire:
David Lee $15.5M PF 1 Year
Tyler Zeller $2.6M C 1 Year
2016 1st - New Orleans Pelicans - Top 3 Protected
Houston Rockets acquire:
Omer Asik $9.2M C 5 Years
Ryan Anderson $8.5M PF 1 Year
2016 1st - Dallas Mavericks (from Boston)
2016 1st - Boston Celtics (from Boston)
Boston Celtics acquire:
Dwight Howard $22.4M C 2 Years

Now let's help Ty Lawson get to the Nets, while dumping Reke and EG!

This Trade is Successful!: ESPN
New Orleans Pelicans acquire:
Joe Johnson $24.9M SF 1 Year
Brooklyn Nets acquire:
Eric Gordon $15.5M SG 1 Year
Ty Lawson $12.4M PG 2 Years
Houston Rockets acquire:
Tyreke Evans $10.7M SG 2 Years

Rockets IMPROVE minimum +3 Games:
Start: Harden, Beverly, Ariza, Asik, Ryno
Bench: Tyreke Evans & Marcus Thornton & Terrance Jones
Add: 2016 1st - Dallas Mavericks & 2016 1st - Boston Celtics

You're Welcome Rockets! Fist bump!

Pelicans still suck? We waited too long! :( oh well! Top 3 protected! :) FU Kings!
Start: Davis, Cousins, Jrue, Joe Johnson, KJ McDaniels
Bench: Ajinça & Cole

Cleared the cap. AD23 + Boogie + Jrue under contract. 2016-17: AD23, Boogie, Jrue.. and.. we won the lottery! Ben Simmons! AND? max offer: KEVIN DURANT?!?!?

TLDR: LEAGUE FCKD!

George Karl is chasing Nellie for the win total. I don't know how much say he has, but if he has any they aren't getting future assets back for Cousins. I also question his fit next to AD personality wise. We need an alpha dog, not a mad dog.

Tyreke to Houston is interesting. In many ways he's a lesser Harden, so maybe he could be the perfect backup and 6th man for them. However, you gave Tyreke away for nothing in your example. I'd at least like to get a salary dump out of it. It's not like he has zero value, he just may have more value around the league as the 6th man we signed him to be than the starting PG we're playing him as.
