Same thing here. If they can pull that off we are fricked for the next 4 years at least.

How so? Nobody is expecting the Pelicans to win any championships for at least 4 seasons anyway. As long as we play entertaining basketball and win a bunch of games so that the fans can enjoy "winning" sometimes. Watch a couple of dunks and get to see the superteams like the Heat play when they come to town, everybody's happy. Maybe make it to the second round of the playoffs here and there if we get a favorable matchup.

This offseason jumped the contention window at least 2 years ahead. Imagine turning Rivers/Aminu/Stiemsma/future pick into Batum if Portland blows it up, or Gordon into Deng if Rivers makes Gordon expendable. If the team can get Oden and he can play 20 MPG that's a contender. If you think I'm being too optimistic, Demps just took our wildest fantasies, laughed at them and then showed us how you really improve a team.

@TigerInATL- just two months ago my biggest hope was either Eric Bledsoe or Brandon Jennings and hopefully a good draft pick. This offseason has been amazing

Aldridge to Houston seems like a frighteningly real possibility to me.

Would be scary, but I dont think it happens.

If the rumors above of whom Portland is targeting for LMA are true, then Houston doesnt have the juice.

Plus all of Portland's moves this summer have made them a legit playoff contender. They aren't in tank/collect assets mode with their roster.

If they can't get back an All-Star for LMA, they will ride it out and see if a more competitive team will change his mind, a la Eric Gordon.

Do you not think that Portland would demand Parsons if they're giving Aldridge? Probably something like Asik, Parsons, Montiejunas, future pick.

This is what I'm afraid of. This is a star league and stars win championships. Kobe/Shaq, LeBron/Wade, Shaq/Wade, KG/Pierce/Allen, etc.

Our star is Davis. Davis won't be contending for championships in 2 years. LBJ and Durant didn't even make the playoffs until their 3rd year.

I love what we have, but we need to recognize that we have glaring holes at SF and C and that won't be fixed overnight and maybe not by next season.

davis supporting cast will be much better than LBJ and Durant had during their first few years i'm assuming.

I'm assuming his SF and C are better than what we have now. Just saying. We don't need to expect greatness next year. Slow and steady to a championship, don't try to get too many pieces and end up with the crap they had in Cleveland and Orlando around thier stars.

If your crunch time lineup is going to be Holiday/Gordon/Evans/Anderson/Davis then I don't think those holes are so glaring. You're not going to get a high level talent to fill those holes as a 20 MPG "starter".

The biggest mistakes Orlando and Cleveland made was paying a lot of money to aging players with big names but declining skills. Getting young quasi All Star talent entering their primes is not something to be afraid of.

Agree 100%. I think expecting them to win championships in two years is too high of an expectation though.

I'm just looking at Pelicans making championship runs in AD's second contract, not his first. Just me though.

I'm just looking to make the playoffs this year.

Maybe Portland will revisit this in Feb. if Gordon is healthy. Move out a malcontent for the best talent they are going to get back which allows Evans to move back to SG and gives us a legit center.

I've watched Aldridge play, but i'm not sure if he is capable of guarding Cs most of the time. If he is, him and Davis would make a fkn lethal combo.

Turns 28 tomorrow so age is a bit of an issue, but Davis/Aldridge would be faptastic. Free up space to make a run at another max player in 2 years.

ETA: I'd say he is capable of guarding almost any C. Keeping Anderson would be the ideal situation, but I would still give him up, if it came to it. If it didn't:

Jrue/Reke/Rivers
Morrow/Reke/Rivers (If we're playing reke as the 6th man)
Aminu/Miller/Anderson/Reke
Davis/Anderson/Smith
LA/AD/Stiemsma/Withey

yes

Parsons is one of the untouchables for the Rockets. They'd give up a lot extra just to make sure they keep him (if they chose to chase LMA that hard)

Portland's demands are meaningless. The market sets the price. Portland just needs to decide if it's going to sell. I think corndeaux is right and Portland ignores Aldridge's trade request for now.
