Ajinca + Galloway to ATL for Splitter.

The Hawks are thin at backup big and PG so this deal makes some sense.

Asik + Cunningham for Pekovic + Tyus Jones

Thibs turns Pekovic's wasted cap space into 2 defensive minded vets.

Tyreke + Philly 2nd for Noel

So using only a 2nd and players that are not likely to return you get a PG on a rookie deal, a long term 2nd/3rd big to pair with AD/Diallo, and move 2 contracts many fans thought were crazy as soon as they were announced. Plus if you want to trade Holiday you could let Frazier/Tyus Jones be PG by committee until you find a better solution. The main downside is a year of Pekovic wasting $12 million in cap space, but with all the other changes I think you can live with that.

Noel also might be cheaper to resign than we're thinking. The 2 teams I've seen as possibly interested in trading for him are Toronto and Portland, 2 teams that won't have the cap space to throw a bunch of money at him. Add in the RFA matching and hopefully a new GM that doesn't bid against himself and maybe you could keep Noel for $15 or less instead of $20 or more.

Portland desperately need to rid themselves of Leonard for Cal space to get Noel.

Perfect chance to get a sg/sf with a multi team deal

I don't want any part of Meyers Leonard. He's a terrible rebounding stretch 5 that's not even good at shooting 3s. Who do they have that would make me want to take on that? Crabbe? He makes a lot of money to pay a Leonard tax to get him.

Oh I don't want Leonard. Haha I'm hoping we can get Philly to take him and we send them something of interest

Because they are having trouble getting any kind of value for Noel and things just keep getting worse. He's now officially out of the rotation in Philly and Brett Brown says he won't be coming back any time soon, he's complaining to the media, other teams are leaking bad reports about him to drive down his value. Philly basically needs to trade him and if there were an offer of a 1st without taking back a bad contract on the table I think he'd already be gone. If there's not Expiring + #25-#30 on the table, Expiring + #31-33 should be the high bid.

I didn't want Noel for his original speculated asking price, I still don't really because he seems like a lose/lose acquisition with only a very narrow path for it being a smart long-term investment, but if he can be had for peanuts then that is different.

Still think some team will end up offering a late first or something.

I don't think they would give him up for that, but I would absolutely take Noel for Reke+2nd(philly).

I'm not sure that's enough incentive to take on Pek. He is that awful.

I said last week I wouldn't want Asik for Pek unless I was getting at least Lavine back like Holiday/Asik for Lavine/Pek, and in a vacuum I stand by that. But my thinking behind this series of moves is to try and clean the slate a bit for the next GM. If he doesn't want Noel he can let him walk and you didn't give up much to get him. Jones and Frazier also give you the ability to walk away from Holiday if the next GM doesn't want to commit that much money to him.

Also, in theory trading guys like Cunningham and Galloway and Asik helps the tank. In practice Tyus Jones is hitting the 3 well this year and Buddy's improvement minimizes the loss of Galloway, plus Noel/Diallo might be better than Asik/Ajinca, so it might not be as pro tank as you'd like.

so I'd toss Holiday to Minnesota and see if I could squeeze LaVine+Rubio out of them. definitely a long shot, but the hope is Thibs is impatient and makes a win now move

Asik+Cunningham+Holiday

Pekovic+LaVine+Rubio

LaVine fit (he's not a PG) would be a small issue. but they are not as dependent on needing a top 3 pick to nab a PG or giving Holiday $25M/year

I mean on paper these all make sense but when has Demps ever made a move that went backwards? The only one that kind of works is Philly and Dell Derps is likely to give Noel 20+ a year considering doubling down on his stupidity is a yearly occurrence now.

Through 18/19....13.5/14.2/14.8

No shooting, but a great ball handler/passer and good defender. if you can keep LaVine/Hield (or both) on the court w/ him + Davis I don't see a huge problem. you want the ball in his hands often

My biggest worry with him is injury history + NO training staff

what role would you see lavine in that would be transformative?
I thought he was the 2nd best player on th court in the last pels/wolves game but he doesn't seem to have a place if that makes sense

Lavine screams "6th man" IMHO. He's a pg that's more or a combo guard. Good shooter and definitely makes good passes, but questionable ones at the same time. You could live with him and Galloway in the same back court.
