We can't afford to get any difference makers in free agency, even with the MLE.

Well damn that sucks

quote:

I'm not saying a low first rounder is gonna be a sure fire difference maker, but you have to try something different considering the model they've employed hasn't really done anything of note. Kevin Durant and Russell Westbrook don't get hurt and we don't even make the playoffs last year.

Well maybe they should've won the games they could've down the stretch. They had a chance and blew it.

The pels screwed up games early in the year yet won when it mattered.

We are in a small market. We need to build through the draft

False

Besides AD, there are no factors drawing free agents in.

Unproven draft picks would draw in FAs?

'm sorry if the dose of reality that this team as currently constructed with this coach, isn't going to compete for a championship is too much for you to bear.

Noted

? By that you mean with demps?

They tried the trading for/signing "young veterans" model, which has netted us huge contracts with little return and oft injured players.

You don't think there's a single difference maker to be had outside of the top 10? We need role players and cheap depth in addition to a legit starting SF.

Oh, you don't have any actual rebuttal to my argument, so you've resorted to insults.

Unproven draft picks are cheap depth that we need, I'm sorry your reading comprehension is that bad. They don't draw players here (?) good teams, good coaches, good cities, draw FAs here.

Quit trying to put words in my mouth to make whatever point you're trying to make for the sake of arguing.

Which your strategy wouldn't build. Is it fun being Sacramento/Orlando/Charlotte etc? This team will have enough cap space to go after a second star in 2016. They'll want to play for a team like the pels who're building a staff to get the most out of their players.

I'm very sorry you can't get somewhat excited after listening to the past few days.

Maybe you should be a bit open minded and not black and white like you typically are no?

The Pelicans were destroyed by injury yet still made the playoffs. So this is a stupid excuse.

They still had a change to get in by winning 1 more game and they blew it.

What persay should I be excited about? Another draft gone by that we traded out of?

Do the Pels know something that the rest of the league doesn't? At some point you have to get SOMETHING out of the draft besides AD ( no brainer pick)

I should be excited about a career losing head coach being hired?

I mean, he's probably the best offensive coach in the game, so yea that's pretty exciting.

Again you're being closed minded about gentry because you've attached your self to the narrative he's doomed to fail. You mean you haven't even looked at what he's said lately and the excitement he's bringing that monty NEVER had?

It'll be nice having a coach that clearly cares and runs a modern offense while rounding out a great staff(erman in particular)

Clearly we're on the opposite sides of the spectrum as you've failed to even TRY to give it a shot.

And what about the draft? You want to give up an asset(s) to get a pick? I wouldn't be excited at all to move an asset for a blindfolded dart throw(which 90% of these guys are).

Past history is the best indicator of future success/failure.

He's a 60 year old retread coach. What makes you think this is the stop when he finally figures it out? It's not like I think he's a bad guy personally, I just don't think he's the guy to take us to the next level. That's my opinion. It's America and you're entitled to your own opinion.

I'll enjoy the high-flying fast paced offense, but at the end of the day I don't think he gets us much further than Monty did.

Again, you have nothing to refute what I've said, so you resort to calling me "miserable"

Without context sure

Coaching the past few years in successful situations around good coaches. He's always been a respected coach and one of if not the most respected offensive minds.

He's clearly trying to put together a great staff.

Fair

We're not winning a title unless the stars align perfectly. The only guys that would've taken us to the next level(guaraunteed) are Pop/Phil and MAYBE carlisle. They're not walking through that door and an assistant(ala monty when hired) is dubious.

If this team was a rebuild and needed and old soul to guide us through the rough patch, gentry is fine to put a fun team together while young players get better. But to guide AD and the "young veterans" to the promised land? I don't see it, and I have 705 career games to back up my point. I really hope he proves me wrong and I'll be the first one in person to literally kiss his arse if we win a championship
