Yeah he will make it work. I think y'all should trade cousins though. Cash in and build around AD.

He's a top 15 player. You see if it can work between AD and Boog. What other chance will they have to get another superstar?

Sell cousins and get an all-star caliber SF.
Dream come true.

This has to mean someone from our current staff is going to be let go, right? I wonder who that could be?

Why? It's not like they already had an Offensive Coordinator other than Gentry. I think the Assoicate Coach title is kind of like a "lead assistant" title and Erman already has that. But I can see Finch giving up that title for money and the chance to build his reputation with AD/DC. What's more likely to lead to him being a head coach, being the top assistant on a playoff bubble team in Denver, or being the OC that turned the 26th offense into a top 5 offense for a top 4 seed in NOLA?

Nuggets blogs also are pointing out that Malone has a surprisingly high level of attrition from his assistant staff.
And not just people leaving for better opportunities, but people that seemingly left after only one season or so for relative lateral moves.
Whatever the motivation is, I really like the hire. We now have one of the best defensive and offensive assistant coaches on both sides of the ball. Gentry deserves credit for building that. But it will be up to him to turn that raw talent into a cohesive product on the court that can produce wins.

I meant from a staffing perspective. I thought you are only allowed so many coaches on staff?

Well Malone hasn't really come off as the brightest guy. Jokic ends the 2015-2016 season on a tear showing a ton of promise. Malone starts 2016-2017 off with the twin towers experiment with two boulders of men, which I guess it's fair that he tried it. But when it failed, his solution was to bench Jokic and limit his minutes in favor of Nurkic. Which I mean, Nurkic is very solid, but he's not Jokic. So the team predictably stinks it up some more, so he finally swaps Nurkic out for Jokic in the starting lineup and they magically start playing better basketball. Everyone that watched the Nuggets could see this was their best chance well before Malone apparently came to the realization.

Strangely enough that was my first concern about how this could flop, namely, if Gentry continues to fall back on old habits during games.
It always seems like his solution to struggles is to move deck chairs around incessantly, but with an eye toward small ball. Sort of the opposite of Malone's natural inclinations.
Finch could craft the most brilliant system for Davis and Cousins, but if Gentry reflexively jumps back into small ball every time the going gets tough, it could just lead to a disjointed product and a lot of frustrating losses and cohesion problems.

I hate the fact that Nurkic was so cheap.
We traded 1st round pick for a player coming off 6/8 season, DRTG 103, BPM of -2.4, VORP -0.1 to a team who was DESPERATE to get rid of him for cap space.
Then give him a heavy contract after a very solid 7/10 season, DRTG 105, BPM of -0.7, VORP 0.6.
While Portland sent a heavy contract Mason Plumlee, 2018 2nd round pick, and cash for Nurkic AND a 2017 1st rounder...

I never thought much of Plumlee when we played them, but his advanced stats on both on sides of the ball are actually good. My initial reaction was like yours and I though Denver got swindled, but maybe we're wrong thinking Nurkic is the better player or they're at least close to equal.

Nurkic type bigs are a dying breed. He has some injury concerns as well, leg/foot/ankle type stuff I believe. He has that pekovic injury vibe
Plumlee is a better player than Nurkic imo and is underrated as hell. If he ever gets on a good team i can see him being a nice contributor to a title contender. He's a RFA coming up I believe

A lot of portland fans wanted plumlee's head and it was purely because of his defense:
Offense: 114.7 on, 108.1 off
Defense: 114.3 on, 108.9 off
compared to Nurkic's time in Portland:
Offense: 116.7 on, 109.6 off
Defense: 107.5 on, 111.5 off
Plumlee isn't bad, but he's an offensive big that cannot pass or defend...the issue for portland was that meyers leonard is a waste of 10mil a year

Is there a more incestual inter-team relationship in the NBA than the Pels and Rox?
Asik trade
We let them have Anderson and Gordo
We took Motiejunas & T Jones
We're grabbing their old assistant
I feel like we do plenty business with the Rox

He's a good coach. Was working at RGV when they brought him in from Europe. Those teams were always lighting it up.

He's a great passer
2nd only to al horford this year in assist ratio for qualified centers. Was 3rd last year

that was a big reason Denver went after him.
this sounds familiar
quote:
Denver began the season with the idea that its offense could be built around two versatile big men.
quote:
“They bring a different dynamic because they both are good-passing bigs who can bring the ball up the court,” said Nuggets guard Will Barton, who has been on the floor for roughly half of the 56 minutes the two centers have logged together so far. “So now, they get a rebound and you can just run. Mason could bring it up or Jokic could bring it up. They both can pass and finish. It’s just a different element to our game. It’s a difference-maker.”

when you dont actually watch games, just recite stats based on topic, and accidentally look at Miles Plumlee's stats instead of Masons.
