That's what I saw but didn't read too much into it. Wasn't this with Mark Jackson though? He ran off multiple assistants

This is not the type of guy I would want as a lead assistant

"What happened out there was, in my opinion, a total hatchet job for Darren Erman," said Chris Mannix of Sports Illustrated. "Darren has been one of the most respected assistants in the NBA for a long time. Did he tape a conversation when he thought some of the coaches were bad mouthing him to other players? Sure. Was he a shill for management? Absolutely not.

"Mark Jackson... was threatened by the work Darren Erman was putting in, the type of hours he put in as assistant coach. You have to have a certain level of understanding if you are a head coach of your own limitations. Doc Rivers had that with (Tom) Thibodeau in Boston. (Larry) Bird had that with (Rick) Carlisle and (Dick) Harter). Mark Jackson never had that with Darren Erman.

"What happened to (Erman) subsequently, the fact that Doc Rivers immediately tried to hire him as an assistant coach, the fact that the Celtics immediately scooped him up as a Director of Scouting speaks to the level of respect around the league have for Darren and how they don't believe any of the stuff coming out about him from Golden State.

This would be such a huge coup. Never put him in my possible assistant pieces because I didn't think he was possible. He turned down a similar offer from Doc in LA after he lost his job in Golden State.

This would be major.

Boston was 12th in defensive efficiency last season. Not bad, but what was their talent like? Bradley and Smart are fricking defensive studs (at least Smart was in college). Thought Crowder was decent defensively. Don't know if Sully/Olynyk were any good, though.

Who the hell is this guy? He called both Robert Pack and Erman to the Pels before any of the big names. Is he credible?

He's a producer on The Sports Hangover. I have a feeling he gets his inside info from Dino Hanson, who is their NBA/Pelicans insider.

Maybe the Pels gave Gentry a good size budget to go after assistants. I am sure it is something they went over in the interview process and Gentry didn't get a big contract by any means for the NBA.

There defense was the reverse of ours. great perimeter defenders and terrible interior defenders.

That was definitely a poor decision on his part, but let's not overblow it. Mark Jackson is an a-hole and relished finding a reason to exert firing power. Unfortunately for him, he wasn't the only person in the organization with that power.

It was a stupid thing to do but this definitely gives it some context.

Don't know much about him, but from what I've read and the stats his past two defenses put up, I'm happy with this hire. This is the kind of defensive coach they needed to pair with Gentry. The term "mini-Thibs" coined by Rondo, gives me a mini chub.
