Anthony Davis on #Pelicans preseason opener: "Even though we were sloppy, we scored 110 points. Just imagine when we get it right."

Watched the whole game on DirecTV (Pacers feed). The game wasn't as close as the final score shows, NOP were never really in danger of losing although who cares in preseason.

Jrue looked very good. Got in the paint with ease and had a three pointer or two.

Gordon definitely has slimmed up and was very aggressive going to the basket. Stroke still looks good.

Ryno still shooting the fadeaways but had a vintage moment with a tip in off a miss amongst the trees.

AD looks like AD. Truthfully he looked like he was playing half speed tonight but still was dominant at times.

I like Babbitt. Not sure he'll get much PT but he can stroke the three pointer and he looked comfortable off the dribble.

Cunning hand shot two threes, both short off the front of the rim.

Paul George looks to be back. He hit some nasty shots tonight.

The Pacers rookie Turner looked great. Definitely a defensive presence in the middle.

That's all I got.

Most of first quarter. Didn't see him after that.

Evans, Gee, and Pondexter didn't play.

Pels Pacers Highlights

Game highlights, Davis takes the ball down in transition then hits someone with a silky smooth bounce pass for the layup :flap:

I was just looking at the Pacers roster. They might have the worst front court in the league. Who is their PF? The only guys they got at PF/C are Lavoy Allen, Myles Turner, Mahinmi and jordan Hill. That is just awful. They dumped 3 former all stars up front for that group. Turner would have to become a star for that team to come close to contending, in the east no less.

According to Gentry:

Luke Babbitt — whom coach Alvin Gentry said in his pregame radio interview is “a much better player than people see” — scored 16 points

And as for pace:

In the first half, New Orleans’ pace — a statistical measure of possessions per 48 minutes — was 115.8. Last season, the Pelicans ranked 27th in pace at 93.7. The Pelicans finished with about 106 possessions.

“I think we did a good job with the tempo and pace of the game,” Gentry said in his postgame radio interview. “Our goal was to see if we could get 100 shots up. I think we got 103.”

This is something to watch. People will see 110 points and think "Wow! Offense is incredible." The same thing happened (after his first year) with Monty and defense because of the slow pace.

The Pels had 103 shots, 30 something FTA, and about 10 TOs. Only getting 110 points is not the outcome you want.

It's the first preseason game, so there is no complaint or worry. They should be sloppy. They played a ton of guys. They are changing their style completely and that will take time.

Just something to think about as the season progresses.

Agree. They seem to be aware of that, though.

To put some context to the numbers...

110 points in 106 possession = an offensive efficiency rating of 103.8

If their offensive efficiency was 103.8 for the season last year, that would put them at 13th in the league.

Last year, the Pelicans were 9th in offensive efficiency with 105.4 points per 100 possessions.

But, this is also preseason and a lot of back-ups were playing.

Chris Douglas-Roberts had a good game which was pretty encouraging.
