Sources say Pelicans this week auditioned various PGs (including Diante Garrett & Eric Maynor) and have zeroed in on second-year guard Mekel

Procedural delay getting new Visa scuttled Indiana's recent plan to sign Mekel but no such issues expected when the Israeli joins next team

He played for the Mavs a bit last year. I want to say he was on the Mavs when we played them in preseason this year.

What I'd like to know is why we didn't make these types of moves in the offseason. Even letting Casspi go, a move that didn't seem like a big deal at the time, looks pretty foolish in hindsight. If Monty was so tired of teaching guys that don't know the system, hire more assistant coaches before you keep bad players just because they have Corporate Knowledge.

Just looked at his hoops hype page. Here's what they say:

Good pick-and-roll player... Creative passer with nice slashing skills... Was a nice defender in Europe... Three-point shot needs work.

Grew up in Israel. Played at a very high level in the Israel League for a while.

Im sort of confused as well... Did Dell and Monty really think the bench was in good shape with who was on the roster? Im not sure I can make myself believe Dell thought Jimmer and John Salmons could give quality depth

Regardless, its encouraging to see Dell active, and trying to fix the mess sooner rather than later

Here's a highlight vid against the Pacers last year. Looks like your typical crafty euro guard. It will be nice to have someone capable of setting up teammates. LINK

If he's competent, let him play.

Seems like he has a high basketball IQ. Would be a decent signing

Sounds like someone I want off the bench:
1. Plays defense
2. Vision to hit the open man (Ryno/Babbitt) after slashing

Diante Garrett

I recall a game last year, can't remember who it was against but Garrett had gotten signed off the street the day before and suited up that night and torched us for like 20. I can assure you, this dude is better than Rivers.

To be fair the plan backfiring worked out as both of these players were unavailable during the offseason, Cunningham for the false charges against him and Mekel because of visa issues.

That's a stretch when considering some of the UFAs that signed for minimum $ this summer. That they sat tight with Miller and Babbitt and only brought in Salmons is still mind numbing.

It wasn't a ringing endorsement of the strategy, it was a tongue in cheek way to say "hopefully we'll be less terrible when the starters rest now".

I'm liking these highlight videos of Mekel. He's probably terrible on defense, but a crafty passer is just what a bench full of "shot takers not shot creators" needs.

I was surprised that we went into the season with no true back up PG with NBA experience, especially after we were reportedly interested in Jameer Nelson.
