Oddly enough, he's played 82 games.

Just taking the aggregate as a single season is still eyepopping.

Doesn't help if he's on the bench the whole time, but they put up with Gordon for 2 season (so far) at a much higher cost.

I was nervous about Oden when I thought we'd have to clear our bench to get him. If it's the room exception, I'm excited about the possibility.

HEAT LOCK....Heat just created space with the Miller drop. Dude doesnt have to even step on the court next year and just keep getting into basketball shape. This will be a STEAL!

The Heat didn't create space, they lowered their tax bill which could just be to save money or it could be to cover the taxes that will come with the $3.1 million Taxpayer MLE. Their potential offer to Oden didn't change, just the consequences of making that offer. Every other team in the hunt will be offering $2.65 million so money likely won't be a factor.

Yes. Dallas seems less of a financial competitor, as well.

I have to say, I am more excited about this than I was a few weeks ago or yesterday.

Two first overall pick big men for about $8.3m for a season... or just one for the same money. Seems a good gamble.

Do you think we're trying to do a 2 yr deal or just a 1 yr deal? If 2, would second year be team or player option?

Secondly, If Oden has fairly substantial success, do the Pelicans have the cap space to resign him to a longer deal? (either this next offseason or the following?)

Go.

I think Oden being out of the league means he won't have Bird rights so you would be limited to giving him the full MLE next season. If he played well enough to earn significantly more than $5 million then the Pelicans could be outbid.

They can structure it so that the 2nd year is both a Team AND Player Option, protecting both the player and team.

I'm sure we would be negotiating for just a team option.

Yeah the more I look into it, the more exciting it can be. Quite the chance but it's not like we'd lose THAT much to try it out. We still have a good core on this team to make a playoff run.

I'd give him the $3m version of Lopez's deal. If it works for a year, take the chance on 2 more, have the Bird Rights as a bonus.

If not, kiss the $3m goodbye, give him a poboy and a pat on the bum.

Obviously, if Oden would agree to it, I would do it in an absolute heartbeat.

Any idea how long a team has to say to the NBA "Yeah, those moves that we made before, well those happened after the one we're about to make?"
