Folks around the league have been wondering for weeks whether the team would bring back Dell Demps, the GM, for the final year on his deal after a disappointing 2013-14 season. The consensus is growing that Demps is likely safe, though ownership needs to see progress next season — and perhaps a playoff berth in the ultracompetitive West.

But Demps and Monty Williams haven’t always seen eye to eye, according to several league sources, and ownership is more committed at this point to Williams as a long-term organizational pillar.

...A good season could render all this speculation moot, but another trip to the lottery will have the vultures circling both Demps and Williams.

Demps should have gone to more Saints practices and told Sean Payton how awesome and inspiring he is.

Going to love it when we make the playoffs next year and everyone shuts up about both Dell and Monty.

I wouldn't be shocked if Monty's outspoken Christianity helps him out with ownership in a way that maybe Mark Jackson's didn't in Oakland.

I will say this: I know someone who used to work under Shinn, Sperling, and some of Benson's first year. This person was never terribly impressed with Demps. Liked Connelly a lot and liked Monty.

Two names to watch if the Pellies eventually part ways with Demps: Joe Dumars and Bobby Marks, the Nets’ assistant GM.

Well alright then

Would be a nice 1st step. For me personally, I'd still would eventually want more than just getting to the playoffs.

Monty won't be the coach here when the time is coming for AD's 3rd contract.

@MasonGinsberg @McNamara247 @ZachLowe_NBA When Benson bought the team he was "enamored" (I think that's the word I was told) with Monty.

A tweet from one of the BSS guys, I remember seeing "enamored" in an article at the time.

he could be. i hope he is. he's a good coach, he's developed some young guys nicely. he needs a better gm that doesn't make brick headed moves.

making the playoffs doesn't make you immune from criticism. scott brooks is a fricking awful coach and he has made the NBA finals and is currently in the WCF. talent can carry a shitty coach
