Do you think that Demps pitched Erman to Gentry? From reports that I've read, it seemed that they talked to Erman before choosing Demps.
I'm assuming you mean Gentry. I heard that Demps did talk to Erman before Gentry. I also heard that Erman didn't need any pitching to Gentry, and that he was Gentry's top choice anyways with the GSW connection and talking to players. I was also told that Loomis told Demps not to let Gentry walk out of the complex without a contract after the 2nd meeting. It may seem to good to be true story wise; but, then again, the pieces seem to fit exactly how Demps would have wanted them to.

No idea nor does it really matter much to me. Like above, it's more collaborative than before. I find it hard to believe they told Gentry "We're hiring Erman. If we offer you this job and you take it, he will be your AHC. In or out?" Nor does it seem realistic to me that they didn't ask Gentry his thoughts on Erman, if indeed they targeted him to be an assistant previously, and that Gentry wasn't on board with it. Maybe I'm way off.
Forcing an assistant the head coach isn't happy with is courting staff disaster like in GS with Mark Jackson, and is asking for more coach/FO dysfunction, which led in some part to Monty losing his job.

The only thing I remember about Borrego is his name. Don't remember anything else about him.
What's his deal?
What's his deal?

He has a losing record as a head coach.

Worked his way up from video coordinator to assistant coach with the Spurs from 2003 until he came to join Monty's staff. He coached summer league and I can't find the quote but either Jason Smith or Vasquez gave him a lot of credit for helping their game. Moved to Orlando for a promotion and got experience as the interim coach once Vaughn got fired. I honestly can't tell you his area of expertise, but I think he'd be a quality addition to the staff.

From Monty's latest staff, I wouldn't mind bringing back Bryan Gates, Kevin Hanson, or Fred Vinson.

Monty might still be here if he had been open to letting the FO upgrade his staff.
monty may very well have had the worst coaching staff in the league last year, for no discernible reason. it makes no sense at all to me whay he didnt scramble to get better assistants last year, or the year before

from a basketball standpoint that'd be great

quote:I disagree to an extent. While I do not think it was the only reason for choosing Gentry over someone like JVG, I think it was part of the decision. I think Demps wants full GM control and JVG would have impinged on that a bit (from the beginning, not later). We will see whether it was a good decision to keep Demps. I hope so, but cannot say I am 100% sold.
That whole situation sounds a little ludicrous to me. Like ATL said, I'm sure it's a plus that Gentry isn't interested in potentially controlling the roster himself, but in no way can I see Demps being afraid to hire JVG or Thibs because he could potentially lose some of his power.

It's fine to disagree, but I guess I'm still confused on how you think that would happen. Do you think that the full extent of JVG's role/authority would not have been discussed prior to his hiring? Or do you think that JVG would just go behind Demps' back to Loomis, and Loomis would strip Demps of some authority because JVG asked for it?
If anything, I could see JVG saying in the interview that the only way he takes the job is if he is granted a Front Office role as well, and Demps saying no thanks. But, I just can't see there being any situation in which after JVG is hired that would cause Demps to give up power/authroity.

I just can't see how bringing in a guy who has familiarity with this organization and head coaching experience (albeit on an interim basis)would be a bad thing.
