The Pelicans are the lowest-valued franchise in the NBA, according to a Forbes estimate of all 30 teams released Wednesday. Forbes pegs the franchise's value at $750 million -- still a significant jump from when Tom Benson purchased it from the NBA in 2012 for $338 million. The average value of a franchise, per Forbes, is $1.36 billion.

This estimate is high. The Trust's experts in the Benson case valued the Pels at $588M. They would put forth the highest value they could.

It's sad. Tom just needs to sell it to someone who has the time/effort to give it the attention it needs. Unfortunately, there's not many (if any) billionaires from Louisiana that would pay drop a billion to keep the Pels here.

I wonder why the value is lower than a franchise like the Bucks or Magic?

because those franchises have been in their cities far longer than the Pelicans and have had stretches of success.

the pels haven't been here that long, have been rebranded once already, and they've sucked nearly the entire time the franchise has been in New Orleans.

Just let oil prices go up and Lafayette and Shreveport will be full of them. (sarcasm)

uhh, larger markets. And, Orlando is Mickey Mouse's team.

The Pelicans have been here long enough for value to mean something which is another reason why it was rebranded. yes, to initially profit off merchandise sales but also to make the franchise a Louisiana, gulf south team.

 your comparison does not compute when you consider the success rate of the Bucks and Magic franchise.

I'd also argue that you're wrong. New Orleans basketball has won a division title, finishing as high as 2nd during the best 2 decades of western conference basketball (I understand we started in the Eastern conference).

They've been a playoff team 6-of-14 seasons. That's 43%.

You're generalization is purely wrong.
