How can it be done? And I'm referring to trading with a likely lotto team next year of course.

Next year's draft looks a lot better than this year's. Realistically, what do you think it would take (obviously it takes two to tango so we'd need a team willing to do it) to get it done? Maybe there is a team that is betting on themselves to be a lot better next year and really like a player that is projected to fall where we will end up picking.

I mean could you imagine a kid like Michael Porter Jr on this roster?

Next year's draft may be better but the AD clock is ticking. We don't have time to wait till next year, draft two rookies, then develop them, thinking AD is going to be happy with that.

Not to mention the fans (me including) are ready to see this team compete in the West (easier said that done of course).

That's why I feel like you get a guy like Buddy Hield who is NBA ready this year, make some trades, and revamp the roster.

Dell's job is on the line too.

All in all great idea. I just think we have to do what we can to at least get AD and the Pels competing in the West this upcoming year or at least make some major strides towards that.

Do we give away our pick next year in this scenario?

We might be pretty bad next year too

I guess that depends on the trade. If it's Philly, we'd have to give up both picks (this year's and next), plus trade them a player (who that would be I don't know )

If the Pels made that trade, Philly would finally start winning

I've read Portland is in rebuild mode. How about our 1st (next year) and Crabbe (I'd like to keep him but we'll sweeten the deal) for the 6th pick?

Lmao, this was a very good sarcastic/educated response and I love it.

Although, I think you meant their first next year and crabbe for our first this year (6th). Terrible trade but I LOL'd.

Portland was trying to rebuild and it's been everything but that, very impressive.

Good strategy. It's clear that this team doesn't need draft picks to succeed.

They should have been, it's impressive that they weren't, hopefully for your sake you don't come to regret the unexpected success of this season. Ask Hornican fans how the feel about being unexpectedly good in year 2 CP3 and ending up with Hilton Armstrong instead of someone like Rudy Gay. Being worse when it was excusable may well have extended the CP3 era.

Yes Portland has a great backcourt but everyone else on the roster are good players at best. I don't know who the 2nd best big in this draft behind Bender will end up being, but if 3 years from now you feel stuck on the mid tier playoff track because your front court is just ok, remember that Portland had every excuse to be bad enough to draft the first big taken after Bender.

As for the OP, I think the Minnesota pick that turned into #10 and Austin Rivers should have burned us enough to not even think about gambling on trading for a "better" pick.

Well this didn't turn out to be nearly as productive as I initially thought

With no major injuries, the best the current team can hope for is getting beaten by GS or SA in the first round next year.

If we can hit on the draft and lure a solid FA upgrade at the 2 & 3, then we can start thinking about hoping for a 5th seed

Sad that's what we have to hope for, a 5th seed in 2017-2018.

I agree.

Now, if by some miracle they lure a top tier free agent (Durant) to NOLA and have good luck with injuries, we could be where the Thunder are now: a really good team that at least can make a deep run into the playoffs to lose to the eventual WC Champ.
