ESPN did a ranking of the NBA's top 30 centers. Omer Asik came in last at 30th.
It's ESPN insider but i'll still post the link:

He brings some things the Pels don't get from any other players on the roster. That being said, I don't think you'll find many fans of his deal on this board. TBW has tried to show where his contract relative to other centers is fine, but I still don't like the length.

For those without access can you post the info, please?
Curious to see 20-30.

His lack of athleticism and conditioning has shown even moreso with the team wanting to push the pace. He has to be one of the slowest and unathletic big men in the game. I have never seen a 7 footer that struggles to dunk a ball and continually tries to do reverse layups as a result. His strength is supposed to be his screen setting, but he has even struggled with that. He offers little in the way of shot blocking and help defense, but does add some toughness.

His hands and free throw abilities should keep him at number 30 for quite a few years. I'm glad we gave up a first and paid him a shite ton of money. I'm not sure which is more of a head-scratcher, him or the 20 mil dollar center that get 5 minutes a game.

That's a fair list. I'd rather have every C above him.

Deandre is a little high, but I'll take it if it means Gasol is appropriately ranked.

Might just be me but I think Bogut should be a little higher.

Is it me or is it really starting to feel like we are on a fast track to wasting our future with a once in a lifetime player??

This team has a lot more flexibility than people give it credit for. You know who wasn't in the top 30? A center that was given away this summer, Tiago Splitter. If you can similarly give Asik away in the next 2 years, you can go in so many directions, build around AD/Jrue/Reke or blow it all up and try to build a Miami style Big 3 when guys like CP3, Gordon Hayward, Westbrook, Ibaka, and possibly even KD and LeBron are back on the market.
Now the way they over committed to Asik does worry me that they won't make the moves needed to have that level of flexibility in 2017, but hope is still there for now.

part of me thinks they only re-signed asik because the burned a first for him. whether they make the playoffs last year without him is unknowable
still, it's chasing a sunk cost, and he looks terrible
hopefully he is just rusty but even at full go he is what he is, a negative on offense unless he's getting OREBS and a moving target on defense

I really think we should trade him and some picks for Hassan Whiteside

He's damn near last in salary on this list not counting guys on rookie deals....

Anybody remember 1 year ago when Dell told everyone he thought Asik was a top 4 center in the league? Lol.

You have a link? I don't remember that at all.

Given the choice to upgrade C or SF decision, Demps said they chose C and signed Omer Asik. He called Asik a top 4 center in NBA.

Depressing, I know.

How did we miss that bit of absurdity? Summer I guess.
