So the reason for Nick Young switching from Pels to Warriors is summed up by him, stating:

When asked about how Green’s recruiting (Young was seen with Green at some sort of club on Snapchat over the weekend), Young said: “You now, it is Fourth of July, he told me, ‘Come hang out.’ It was a different feeling because I’m Swaggy P. People like me, but nobody really paid attention to me that day when I was hanging out with those guys. It was a little different. I was like, ‘Dang, this what it feel like?’ “They was getting free championship cake. I think they set it up. We were eating dinner and they were getting championship cake and I’m just sitting there like, ‘Man, that seems cool. This is what you get when you’re a Warrior.’ The manager comes down, ‘Oh no, the bill is on us. You did enough this year.’ I just felt good.”

With that said, NY wants glory, championships and accolades without working for it at this point in his career.... Dude just seems to play for the lifestyle more than the love for the game.

It's cool at some point, to indulge, but not piggybacking a great team when your still young enough to be a starter level player, fringe All-star in a good year, etc., if you just gave more than just chucking shots and not much more. Same boat as JR Smith, but less egregious, bc JR has/had the physical tools (defensively) to be better than a head case with a streaky jumper.

Side bar: To those who point out Durant, not exactly the case, bc Durant is a Hall of Famer and needs chips to solidify his greatness when comparing him to greats... NY has no need to worry about this cementing his career bc he will be a forgotten member, 10 years from now, if Warriors won next year.

Here's hoping that Jamal Crawford wants to be on a team that he can make considerably better (1-2 spots in West) vs. playing on a 1 yr. contract for a non-playoff Lakers team, betting on 2019season...

J. Crawford probably could eventually start for the Pels and be a key cog in getting us in playoffs and possibly a 1st round win. Maybe that was Dell's plan all along. Forcing Warriors to act on Young quick, but wanting Crawford really... Genius!

I wish there was a link provided to that quote? Not that I don't believe you about Swaggy P going down on Green for some cake. But wanting me to believe Demps is a genius for passing on Swaggy when we need scorers?

JR and NY aren't in the same sentence anymore. Smith has grown up and evolved his game to be multi dimensional.

This Demps pulled out stuff might be slightly...exaggerated. He might have seen the writing on the wall and pulled the offer, appearing as if he didn't lose a free agent.

so let me get this straight:

-Draymond is recruiting Swaggy P to come to GS to sit on his arse while the Warriors try to go to their 4th straight Finals

-KD took a sizable paycut this year to help get Young on the team so he can then do no work all year

-The Warriors are paying a sizable tax on Young's salary, for which he will do no work

-Luke Walton, former GS coach, either did not tell them anything about his year coaching Nick Young

-Dell Demps and the Pels FO outsmarted Bob Myers and GS brass in order to get secret top target Jamal Crawford

Shameless Pel

Not sure which JR your watching the last few years. If multi-demisional means chucking up shots (only a tad bit more reserved than younger years), feigning defense, minimal rebounding and non-meritous passing, then I guess he does a number of things.

If he was multi-demisional, there would have been no need to pay I.Shumpert to resign last year for all that money and they don't make that desperate, but non-consequential trade for Kyle Korver.

JR just hasn't produced consistently in other facets of the game and it's aggravating to watch because he has/had the tools to be a perennial all Star in the league.

JR is considered to be a good defender.

Unfortunately your opinion does not line up with the majority of NBA analysts and Lebron James, who flat out said JR is the best defender on the Cavs.

I knew JR when he was in NOLA.

He was either shy or not very friendly.

I know. I was only a couple years older.

He wasn't a dick or anything, just very reserved.

dude

did you watch the cavs the past three years?
JR smith is likely their third best player, and has been indispensable
Shumpert is unplayable

Fairly certain KD took the pay cut so the Warriors could sign Steph big money, long term. That is what I have heard!

Nick Young is a head case who has no D. Did not want from the beginning!!

Not quite. Steph was always taking the supermax, as he rightly should. And the Warriors were almost certainly going to be paying luxury tax this year.

Durants contract is about having the money to keep Iguodala and Livingston. And having the ability to sign Nick Young to the taxpayer MLE w/o going over the budget ownership set. Durant saved the team about $20M in salary/tax payments, which is entirely his right to do so

As it is, the Warriors will have the 2nd highest payroll/tax ever.

Perfectly reasonable opinion.

read a good article on deadspin I think about Durants discount
sets a bad precedent of saving the owners money that will not go back to players and/or fans...basically making the case that the players would be better off hiring their own team and league management and telling the owners to frick off with their 50% of revenue take

what really does ownership provide for 50% of the take that a management firm couldn't do for 10%?

i'm about as pro-player as any one on this board. i like the idea of ditching ownership, but i dont think it is realistic.

i dont like players feeling obligated to help out billionaire owners. same time, players should do whatever they want with their contracts. maybe it sets a league wide precedent, but i doubt it. Durant is in a very unique situation as a player on perhaps the greatest team of all time.

and, in this situation, the Warriors, so far, are putting a lot of money back into the team. this aint a thin, aging Miami cutting Mike Miller to save $5M and thus pissing off LeBron. Durant giving this much back, as Ziller pointed out, is also throwing some pressure back on ownership too.

now, if Benson comes to Cousins next year and asks for a discount to stay in NO, Cousins should rightly tell him to go frick himself

Nick young may grow up now.

If he wants serious pt, he has to bring solid d, make open shots.
He is guy #10 or 11. He will have to earn even getting on the floor with west and iggy and livingston and mccaw.

The players have all the power. If an owner suggests they take less, they just tell the owner to frick off, they will play elsewhere. In the NFL Brady has been taking discounts for years and it hasn't set a precedent over there.

Durant chose to take a discount. He wasn't made to take one.
