No idea. have they officially inked Bosh and Wade yet? If not, can they use Bird Rights/any exceptions to go over the cap?

That's actually a really good team in the East

East will be sneaky good and fun to watch this year. Cavs, Bulls, Hornets, Wiz, Raps, Hawks and Heat will all be solid. The Bucks will be interesting w/ Jabari and Giannis. If Rose is healthy and the Cavs come together, they could be legit title contenders.

Bird Rights usages implies a cap hold. If you have $25 million in cap space you can't sign Bledsoe to $20 and then use Bird Rights to give Bosh $20. I don't see anyway Miami can get in on Bledsoe without a trade of a core piece to Phoenix if they'd even agree to a S&T.

Lakers waiving guard Kendall Marshall, but have interest in bringing him back on a new deal if he clears waivers, league sources tell Yahoo.

Many people were hoping we landed him in the draft.

He's a drive and kick playmaker. Can't shoot to save his mother's life though.

Pelicans

We begin with the team that kicked off the offseason in earnest back in June. Are you ready to jump on the Pelicans bandwagon? It’s time. We thought it was time last year, but then the entire roster got hurt, and the dreams were deferred. Then New Orleans dealt Houston a first-round pick for Omer Asik, taking last year’s “win now” approach and doubling down on it.

Now it’s time to double down with them. Go all in. Grow a unibrow. Get the angry pelican tattooed on your chest. Paint your house that ugly bronze alternate color they chose for some reason.

I believe in the blueprint. Everyone got hurt last year, which made the Pelicans’ offseason look like a flop, but when the core players were healthy, as Kevin Arnovitz pointed out in February, “The Pelicans’ desired closing unit — [Jrue] Holiday, [Eric] Gordon, [Tyreke] Evans, [Ryan] Anderson, [Anthony] Davis — dominated the league offensively this season before its members started dropping like flies, scoring an ungodly 123.5 points per 100 possessions.”

Losing Anthony Morrow this summer will hurt, Monty Williams is still a question mark as a coach, and it’s unclear if they’ll ever be able to move Gordon. But while 15 other teams made bigger moves this summer, the Pelicans are quietly sitting there waiting to explode in a few months.

Even the Evans contract that everyone mocked looks 10 times better after he went for 17.4 points and 6.4 assists per game following the All-Star break. Compare Evans’s four years for $44 million to what Gordon Hayward and Chandler Parsons are getting, and suddenly $11 million a year is decent.

Oh, and Davis. Trusting the Pelicans’ blueprint from the last two summers could look incredibly stupid 12 months from now, but King Brow is the biggest reason I feel confident. He’s the next guy to be in the Durant-LeBron conversation, maybe the only real challenger to the throne for the next five years. And in case you forgot, the Sonics/Thunder with Durant won 20 games, 23 games, and then … jumped to 50. Get in on the Pelicans.

I'm not sure, none of the salary sites have them with anything officially on the books.

Don't know about that. Appreciate finally getting some love though.

There was the obligatory Morey slurping from Grantland though...

This summer was all about going for Chris Bosh and Carmelo Anthony to fill out a contender’s nucleus, then going over the cap to bring back Parsons as a fourth star.

The only way this offseason is that bad is if you think Parsons is that good.
Or it was that bad because they failed every goal you listed.

Lakers fans are ticked about the Carlos Boozer deal. Really ticked? Why? Because they are not used to picking up scraps for a weak team.

The Lakers are pretty shitty and look to be for the forseeable future.

The Kobe contract coupled with their hubris on the Howard deal has led to their demise.

I love it.

Same here. Can't stand the Lakers but I'm going to watch every game I can this year (which probably won't be hard since they'll still get tons of national games). It's going to be fantastic to watch Kobe jack up 50 shots a game.

Yep, they did it to themselves. Went to a car dealership and volunteered to pay $70,000 for a $40,000 car. They were bidding against no one for Kobe, and gave him an insane contract out of...nostalgia, I guess?

Now they're stuck with an old, broken down, grumpy, Kobe who no one has ever actually enjoyed playing with - with the possible exception of Gasol - especially not now.
