So..who do you guys think the Pelicans should pursue as the new coach next year? I can't imagine Monty Williams making it to another season after two as miserable as this, especially since Benson has no allegiance to the new guy

He just signed a 4 year extension this off season. Don't be so quick to judge a team that has 2 rookies starting and it's best player injured. If Gordon comes back fully healthy this team's last 25 games should look very different from the first 25.

I'm hearing they've already contacted Trent Johnson and Stephen Hawking about possible interest.

I don't think there's going to be any middle ground with this injury this season. He's either going to be ok in a few weeks or need surgery.

Shouldn't you be in school right now?

ETA - I'm assuming 1990 is your year of birth. In that case, you're hopeless.

I'm actually not super thrilled with Monty's coaching this year...but he gets a mulligan this year due to the shitty roster and injuries. Next year there needs to be significant improvement.

Hornets Roster

Feel free to look at last year's roster, too.

By virtually every account he did a great job last year. If you weren't trolling you would know that.

This year, I think he's done a fairly terrible job. But this year is about progression of individual players. We will see at the end of the year and into next year.

Getting maximum effort out of a shitty roster. He even ended up with a coach of the year vote. Good coaching isn't measured in wins and losses, it's measured in maximizing the ability of the players available to you. If Gordon doesn't play again this year, that's not on Monty, that's on Demps. Monty's job is to do the best with what he has. Sitting 2 lottery picks for 2 Dleaguers that hustle and have a clue may not lead to more wins, but it's the right coaching move.

Long term I don't think you get rid of Monty, but you do get him to bring in some better assistants that are strong in areas where he's weak. Phil Jackson is considered one of the GOAT coaches but all he really did was manage the personalities. Tex Winter was the X's and O's guy that implemented the Triangle Offense. Monty will be fine as the Hornets HC long term if he can find his Tex Winter.

It's professional sports. As in professional athletes. If you can't gather the proper professionals and win, then you shouldn't stick around long. He inherited a play-off team his first year and was bounced in the 1st round. If you finish bottom of the barrel the two subsequent years in the NBA after that, then you deserve to be canned.
