6. New Orleans Pelicans

Dragan Bender
Croatia
Age: 18
Forward/center

The Pelicans need backcourt help and it might be hard to pass on Hield if he he's still on the board.

But word on the street is that they are pretty big Bender fans and see him fitting nicely with Anthony Davis in the future -- especially with their fear of losing Ryan Anderson this summer to free agency.

This is such an odd way of thinking. "If one of a realistic field of 7 things doesnt happen exactly the way I've decided i like it, which is a statistically highly probable, Im going to be unhappy! I have the desire to probably be unhappy!"

Usually, if someone makes and follows up on statements like this, you can extrapolate it outwards and deduce that they are a generally unhappy person...based solely on arbitrary parameters they made for themselves. Insane.

I have Bender higher than Buddy, personally. But if this administration drafts a 2-3 year project (before he even really contributes) over an NBA-ready player, I will eat my own face.

No way it happens. But I love Bender's upside, so I kinda want to eat my own face. Hope I'm wrong

I wouldn't mind the Bender pick if we could do a complete gut of the team, but I don't see that realistically happening.

You can't pass on Bender if available at 6. He'll be a nice AD replacement years down road and can compliment well for time being.

Makes too much sense

Anderson and Gordon off the books this year

Jrue and Evans after next season

The time is now to start building

At this point truly it needs to happen. This team stinks!

I want to believe they wouldn't take Bender, but who knows with this front office.

For every Porzingod there are 3 Tskitishvili's or Bargnani's.

Based on what?

I'm not attacking you, but I don't think any of us (and yes, I'm going to bet you didn't go to Israel, Croatia, or Eurocamp to scout him) have the requisite information on him to make any opinion whatsoever.

We've all watched Buddy Hield play a lot. Same thing with Dunn or Murray. None of us have watched anything of Bender beyond youtube clips and MAYBE some actual game film floating around out there. You can correct me if I'm wrong.

All I'm saying is, I simply won't comment on an opinion on where Bender fits in all this because I have no idea. He could be great.

But I'm with you, IF he's a project as he appears to be, I have serious serious doubts that this team would pick him.

I'm with you. I've been extremely vocal about wanting a gutting of this roster.

That isn't going to happen with Demps coming back.

If they draft Bender wait 10 minutes before eating your face. It could be similar to Noel's drop in 2013.

What do you know about the "can't trade our 1st mandate" from the trade deadline? I'm just wondering if Loomis is setting any parameters like "follow your draft board" and if Bender is above Dunn/Hield he would be the pick.

Bender is light years ahead of Porzingis at his age. He's the type of home run pick that a small market team has to hit on to be a competitor.

I think that, with no insider knowledge whatsoever, a no trading the 1st round pick is a PR move because they simply cannot get away with trading 1st round picks anymore without people going crazy.

OUtside of that, I would be willing to bet the mandate is definitely still "Win now".

I remember seeing that the 76ers are shopping Okafor and most people on here say no way.

But my question is this: if Okafor was a part of this draft class, wouldnt he be at the very least a top 3 pick?

I know most still have a bitter taste left over from Omer Asik and dont want to do trade away ANOTHER draft pick. I get it.

However, Bender will need a while to grow and additionally isnt a great fit next to AD. Hield, Dunn, and Murray will all be decent players but I dont think any one of them are sure things or will have the impact Okafor will have. I know the NBA seems to be moving towards smaller lineups, but mobile big men like AD and Okafor will be able to adjust to that game. Okafor is already a good young player, fits next to AD, still on a rookie contract, and still has plenty of room to grow.

What am I missing?
