Even though it'd be extremely difficult win a division and finish outside the top 8, shouldn't the league just scrap guaranteeing playoff spots to division winners? While an unlikely event, fans would not want to see the 9th (or worse) best record make the playoffs just because a team won a division. Yes, the NFL sometimes has division winners that have worse records than teams outside playoffs, but that happens with only 6 playoff spots. Scrapping the guarantee in the NBA would be a preventative step from another firestorm.

I don't like divisions. Just bust it up and use 2 conferences imo. 2/3 games against conference teams, and balance schedules as best as possible.

I think this is step one. I really like this. If you are going to have division then you have to have some reward for winning your division.

I like you get a playoff spot if you win your division. But you are seeded based off of your record.

I wish the NFL would do this.
