@HPbasketball:
Pels have to go 22-13 for 47 wins RT @GuyITC: @HPbasketball The Thunder also have to jump the Pelicans.

@HPbasketball:
Suns went 10-4 in January, Pels 9-6, Thunder just .500, 7-7.

@HPbasketball:
January net points per possession: Suns +4.6, Pels right behind them at +4.1, Thunder: -3.1

@HPbasketball:
so… the Pelicans were 6-1 vs. the West in January.

@HPbasketball:
… … …. … THE PELICANS HAVE THE BEST DIVISION RECORD IN THE SOUTHWEST WHAT IN THE HOLY HELL

@HPbasketball:
Pels 6-4 Grizz 6-5, Rockets 5-4, Spurs 4-6, Mavs 4-6.

Just found all this info interesting (and semi-depressing considering our record against the East). He also mentioned that Q-Pon "has helped" and I will update with more tweets if he drops anything else.

There's a whole lot of shite going on with your post, but most of us knew that we had the best record in the SW. Obviously means nothing.

That is a lot of numbers that I think should leave us all optimistic about the future. I know we all want the playoffs this year but even if we get the 8 seed, how much better is a first round loss than not being in the playoffs? (Because c'mon, we aren't beating the Warriors in a playoff series)

I don't mean to sound defeatist, but I guess I'm saying that this isn't our year and everyone knows that. It's obvious we have potential. Just going to take the right coach and management to get us there.

Making the playoffs gives our team respect around the league and lets AD know that he can win here and this will help with him signing that extension this offseason. On top of that, if we make the playoffs we will be able to keep our first round pick

Playoff experience is invaluable.

AD is a RFA. The extension will be signed no matter what. Why do I keep reading that on this board?

The "1%" is that he could sign a 1 year deal, get matched, and bounce when it's up. 2 things. It almost never happens with stars coming off the rookie deals. I don't think AD is the exception to the rule. It's kind of a dick move, and it's bad for the players if they want to keep jumping into the league at 18-19. Also, we can offer him financial stability for life. He still takes a chance that he has a Paul George like injury during that 1 year deal. Oh, and we can offer more money than anyone else.

So really don't sweat this at all. It can't be stressed enough how unlikely it is.

Yeah we would get smoked by the Warriors, but playoff experience is playoff experience. That is invaluable for someone like AD at his age because the NBA playoffs are a whole different monster so I would rather AD have some experience. Even if it is a 4-0 or 4-1 series AD, hell maybe even Tyreke and EG could learn some more about the game.

I really don't know that we would get smoked by the Warriors. We always play up to our opponent. Beating good teams isn't our problem, it's the bad teams we struggle with. Also, the warriors are still pretty new to their success. I think it could go seven games.

Because that's how the system is designed to work.

From this week's Power Rankings (stayed at 14)

quote:

Did you know the Pelicans have the best division record of any team in the Southwest Division? Or they're 8-9 vs. Western Conference playoff teams? Or they've won 6 of 8 eight? Every time we bury them and put the tombstone in place, Anthony Davis and Tyreke Evans demolished the grave and leap out. They're not out of the playoff race by any measure.

For some reason Reke get crapped on here. It's mind boggling.

They do the same thing to Asik, they did the same thing to Jarrett Jack because he didn't play the way they thought a PG should play. But there really is a Good Tyreke and a Bad Tyreke. I don't mind the charges or the missed prayer layups if there aren't clearly better options available, but there often have been, even it's just pulling the ball back out and starting again.

I've seen enough good in spurts from this roster that I'm kind of curious to see it at full strength. If all we did was add an MLE player to the mix next offseason I wouldn't be upset.

If we can get a real live 3 and D SF I agree.

No way Gordon opts out, but maybe he is worth keeping around next year. He has definitely played well since he came back from the shoulder injury.

The staying healthy part is the key. Jrue and Gordon have never shown the ability to stay healthy in NOLA.

If we can get Asik at 10m a year that is a no brainer. Rim protection isn't cheap.

12 assists in 3 of the last 4 games. Tyreke looks to have changed his mindset entirely. The only game with low assist/high point totals was the Denver game where he was literally the only person on our team capable of doing anything once AD went down. He also was pass first in that game except shots weren't falling. Most of his points came in the second half.

It will be hard to beat this team if Tyreke is putting up 10+ assists on a frequent basis. His distribution, QPon's veteran leadership, and Gordon's re-emergence have been the true catalysts to our recent success.

I'm really hoping for a 2 year 12-15m extension/restructure totaling 3/27-30 over the next 3 years. That's a major discount as the cap goes up if he stays healthy. It's a big if with him, but he's proven to be a key part to this team when healthy. I just want to get through this season without any leg setbacks, and I'll be sold. The other crap can happen to anyone.

To me, the real question at this point is what to do with Jrue Holiday if this isn't a mirage from Evans and Gordon.
