I'd keep that pick until February unless it was for a very good player. Like say Avery Bradley. Nothing less

What do you pay to keep Bradley in summer 2018?

He presents the same problem as trading for Lin and it has nothing to do with his play: we would only control him for this year. After his budget contract, he is going to be looking to get paid and his agent would have too much negotiating power after we give up a 1st.

To an extent. The team still has to be good enough to make Cousins want to re-sign. So there is a balance between saving your assets for the best deal versus making the team competitive.

I have no doubt that they'll trade the 2018 pick this year because convincing Cousins to resign is huge. I'm sure it's burning a hold in Demps' pocket.

Unless they completely blow FA I don't think it's likely they'll be on the outside looking in. AD played 75 games this season, could have played 78, and we've always speculated that many of his injuries are injuries he'd have played through with more on the line. Even if he does miss his usual 15 games this season, you've got Cousins to pick up the slack. You're assuming the worst which I understand given history, but I think we have less reason to be pessimistic this season.

They obviously think with a full offseason together that AD, Cousins, and Jrue with minor additions will be good enough for the playoffs, but they will need those 3 to stay healthy.

They probably think it's inconceivable that they'd be snake bitten to start the year 3 years in a row. They also probably assume that at full strength they'll be at least as good as the 10-6 team they saw in March. That'd be a 51 win team. Look at the W/L record from that stretch. They beat all the teams they should have beaten and were often competitive in losses to superior opponents.

I agree, you don't wait for the sake of waiting, but what are the odds a team will be itching to dump the right guy for a 2018 pick right after the 2017 draft?

I wonder how realistic this is.

Moore + Frazier to Minny for Tyus Jones and 2nds.
Tyus Jones and 2nds to Washington for Kelley Oubre

You free up space to go after Mills and get a cheap D wing with 3 and D potential.

Washington is capped out, they could use a backup PG, and they played Bogdonovic more than Oubre in the playoffs.

I assume you're thinking that his lessened PT and knee injury are diminishing his value. I can see that and wouldn't oppose this deal.

If you're saying Oubre should be valued at a late 1st, I'd agree. I don't think we can offer Washington Oubre for 2nds and just taking his salary into our trade exception. 2nds don't help Washington enough now. But Washington is capped out and desperate enough at backup PG to have signed Brandon Jennings who gave them nothing. Tyus Jones gives you a quality backup PG on a rookie contract cheaper and the smae length as Oubre's plus you get 2nds.

If they think they'll lose Bogdonavic in FA they'd probably try to keep Oubre, but Tyus Jones and 2nds seems like a pretty good fit for their needs. Plus Tyus Jones was picked in the 1st in the same draft as Oubre. It's not like I'm trying to trade Frazier and 2nds for Oubre.

I think the bigger obstacle to this trade may be Thibs liking Moore as veteran depth more than he likes what he can get in FA. Minnesota can free up enough money to go after better guys than Moore. I'm just assuming because they are so young and in Minnesota that having $20-$30 million won't get them much.

I agree that they lose Bogdanovic. They won't want to pay him and Porter.

I wish we could get Bogdanovic. Damn good shooter. Not entirely certain it's possible though.

I'm not sure if this should belong in this thread or if we should just go ahead and start and off-season thread but this is my ideal scenario

Re-sign Jrue and Dante
Trade 2018 1st, Frazier, Qpon, and Ajinca for Rubio
Sign Bogdanovic with MLE (assuming the Wizards won't match)
Use TPE to acquire Dewayne Dedmon
Draft Nigel Williams-Goss out of Gonzaga

Rubio / Williams-Goss / Cook
Holiday / Moore / Crawford
Hill / Bogdanovic
Davis / Cunningham / Diallo
Cousins / Dedmon / Asik

Hold on to the BAE until deadline and use on a bought out vet for playoff push

Hill, Moore, Bog, Diallo, 2020 are assets that can be used for trade if need be

May not be a Championship team but it doesn't kill your cap going into 2019 offseason and it's playoff worthy for sure - lots of shooting and still very good on the defensive side of the bal

I like that offseason I just would like to keep that first rd pick instead of dealing it because I think Rubio could be had for less then a first since if the reports were true that they were debating whether or not to trade him straight up for d rose. I think a package of Etwaun Moore Ajinca and two future 2nds could get it done

Covington would be a nice fit with Pels.
