Per Brett Dawson of the Advocate

Free agent Lance Stephenson will work out for the Pelicans, league source says.

I don't know why. I don't see a roster spot for him.

It's been discussed a bit in the Ty Lawson thread because we supposedly had interest in him. The Pels have been showing interest in guys that are more than camp bodies suggesting they have some moves to free up roster spots ready to go.

I'd support

Similar to a Terrence Jones addition. Guy has played at a high level and is still young. Hit a bit of a rough patch but by all accounts was a great teammate last season

Depth at the 3 can't hurt. Plus he can play defense

Don't we have 15 guaranteed contracts right now?

Talk about players that fell off a cliff. Dude looked like he was gonna blow up and has been an awful head case since

Yes and we can't trade anyone we just signed until December. It'd also be very unlikely they cut a guy you just signed like Gee. That means they have to trade 2 for 1, like Tyreke and Ajinca for Monroe, or straight dump a guy like Ajinca or Cunningham. I don't think they straight dump anyone just for a roster spot so my money is on a Greg Monroe trade finally happening.

Hmmm.

Or maybe no one wants Lance, and he wants to go somewhere where he can be showcased in preseason? Trying out for othe teams essentially?

Trade seems the most likely.

The only other option is a buyout of Tyreke and there is no way that is happening.

That's an interesting thought, but he played fairly well for the Grizz last year, I doubt playing well in preseason changes the market for him.

Well. No team has signed him.

Maybe if he balls out he gets a decent one year deal from a bad team with cap space.

lance stephenson and josh smith are case studies on how attitude and being a poor teammate outweigh talent.

LS is 25 years old, and his last year with the pacers he put up 14/7/5. JS is 30, and thru their age 30 seasons only kavin garnett had put up the numbers he has in multiple categories.

finally it seems that there are more legitimate NBA players than there are roster spots

Josh Smith is as much a case study on poor shot selection and/or the need for the ability to stretch the floor.

Him, Monroe, and Drummond couldn't be on the floor at the same time because none could hit a basket from further than about 3 feet away.

If he comes in ready to work with a good attitude and is willing to do whatever is asked of him, I'd take him.

who you giving up/cutting loose?

they'll need to make a trade to fit him and ajinca or Cunningham are really the only ones they could move. I don't agree the Bucks would give Monroe away in any deal that includes Evans. That would be a straight salary dump for them. Surely there will be interest in Monroe later in the season as injuries pile up

Much of JS's early success was due to his superb athletism and motor. As he's gotten older and is losing his ability to create space, he's become more and more of a SF/PF hybrid that can't shoot. At this rate, he'll be out of the league soon if he isn't already (did he sign with somebody this off season?)
