Could buy one. However, I do not see Dell even wanting to get into the 1st round.

Draft picks are EXCITING!!!!!!!
Name a recent guy picked in the mid to late 20s that's helped a contender? Reggie Jackson is the only one coming to mind. If we were talking about a pick in the late teens to early 20s it'd be different. A lot of people view early 2nds better than late 1sts because you have similar talent potential without as much guaranteed money.

There's a reason we haven't seen a 1st sold since 2010. The CBA changed the rules on money you can send out. It used to be you were limited to $3 million per transaction, now you're limited to $3 million per year which means if you buy a pick you don't have any cash the rest of the year, and cash considerations are often essential to making player trades happen.

Jimmy Butler
Roberson started for OKC
Gobert is looking like a beast and would help any contender
Ezili was just a rotation player for the Champs
Norris Cole helped championship teams
All taken between 25 and 30 the last few years
Not saying it is an amazing spot to be in, but if Dell identifies a guy and all it costs is some cash, why not?

That is an interesting qualifier.
Rudy Gobert would certainly help a contender. He was picked 27th.
Clint Capela was picked 25th and helped the Rockets get to the WCF.
Festus Ezili was the last pick of the 1st round a couple of years ago.
Kenneth Farried, Nikola Mirotic, Reggie Jackson, Norris Cole, Corey Joseph and Jimmy Butler were all picked between 22-30 in the same draft, not to mention Parsons and Isaiah Thomas were still available.
So yeah it's not like they are home runs but you can find solid contributers in those slots.

Not at all interesting. First, back of the 1st is the range being discussed. Second, there is the value of a late 1st vs. early 2nd because of guaranteed money. Finally, I could think of several examples of useful players late teens to early 20s, but not many later. Then people said "wait a minute, you forgot about these." Peer Review at its best.

I just find it odd that it needed to be someone recent and they had to have helped a contender. Either way, several examples have already been listed.

Because the goal is to win a championship and they aren't just going to give the picks away, so if it would cost us an asset, you would like to think there's a chance it's worth it. If Reggie Jackson is the only example in the last 5 years, no thanks, and that's all that was coming to mind for me.

I wouldn't mind trading Ryno for one of those picks if a good player is a available . Then try and pick up a three point specialist

At some point, we've got to keep draft picks and get some cheap bench depth through the draft.
I don't think we pick up a 1st this year, but I would be a bit surprised if we didn't pick up an earlier 2nd rounder.

I would agree. They would have to move a core player to get a 1st. I don't know how you sell Davis on moving a player for a 1st round pick after you've been shedding draft picks for proven players the past 2 years.

I've been trying to say this for years. People always say oh "the draft is such a crapshoot", but if you don't have picks you never have the chance to hit on anyone
shite, you can comb the 2nd rd picks over the past decade and find some very good NBA players
