Is Quincy Pondexter not actually dead?

From an interview with local news in his hometown of Fresno.

QPon has told us he'd be back before so if it were just him repeating that that I'd believe it when I saw it, but he seems to suggest something is different now than what has "transpired" the last 2 years. I don't want to get my hopes up but this wouldn't be the first time this team caused/allowed a 1 year recovery to turn into a 2 year recovery.

It's been unbelievable the last 2 years being hurt. We haven't explained a lot, a lot of that news will come out in the next few months about what's happened, what's transpired, but you know what, I'm working my tail off to get healthy and looking forward to this next season. I'm looking forward to redeeming the last 2 seasons that I've missed and going out there and just playing the game I love again.

If you did, how high would those hopes be?

I'm cautiously optimistic (I can't stress enough the "cautiously" part) that he will be back at some point this season and will be able to contribute in some form or fashion.
Just the fact that he's still working to come back is a good sign. The way he's talking now supports that too.

If he's actually healthy guys with his skill set are probably going to cost close to twice as much plus we're already paying him. A healthy QPon means you don't need to overpay to add a low end to middling 3 and D wing like Justin Holiday or PJ Tucker and can focus your limited resources on other positions.

Jesus whit this medical staff there's no telling what could have transpired in the last two year. Q-Pon could have been an a come and the medical staff could have missed it on the X-Rays.

If you follow the S&C coach Jason Summerlin on Instagram, he has been posting workout vids of Q-Pon.

I'm not expecting much. Even if he is healthy enough to get back on the court, he was a role player before and probably won't get back to the same level he was before.

Yes. He was a role player. But he was also a huge reason we made the playoffs that year. His shooting and overall leadership was huge that year. If he can provide those things in a more limited role, then that's a plus for us.

100% agree with this. If he miraculously gives us the same level of play he was before, it would make a world of difference. We always talk about needing a 3 and D wing and he's just that with consistency when healthy. And even better, his contact is ridiculously cheap for what he can bring.

I mean, we have to pay him either way, so might as well get some value out of it.

yeah I know what I'm saying is pretty obvious. Getting anything out of him is better than nothing. That's a no-brainer. But I'm just cautiously optimistic we do get something out of him. I mean, people were completely writing off Reke ever returning and look how that turned out. I realize that's a completely different situation, but the same people that were saying he'd never play for the pels again are saying the same thing about Q. So, I'm not gonna take their word as gospel here.

Someone on twitter asked him what he meant about stuff coming out and this was his reply
Am I reading too much into this because I'm biased against the training/medical care for the Pels? This sounds like "Mistakes were made" not "You don't know how hard I've been working to overcome this difficult injury", no?

Quincy Pondexter? @QuincyPondexter
You guys have no idea what's happened the last 2 years. You will know in due time

I get that vibe too. Like he's about to talk about how our training staff ruined him.
But if he's coming back to this team, I doubt he says that. So I gotta think it means something else. Maybe he's paranoid people think he's pulling a EG

Since he is still under contract with the team, I can't imagine he would put the medical staff on blast.

The way I see it, if you have an injury that is significant enough to keep you from playing for two straight years, maybe you should contemplate retiring because it's highly likely that you'll never be anywhere close to the same as you were before the injury.

While that sounds great, you can't expect a guy to give up that kind of money. It's not like he ever had that big contract to set him up for life.
