If you win the lottery, do you offer to buy out Gentry's contract?

They fired the coach who the players respected and AD loved. The coach who had the team on an upward trajectory, making the playoffs in a loaded conference. What can go wrong?

The 180 this board has done on Monty is one of the more interesting aspects of this board recently.

More like a 120. He still didn't look like the guy that would take the team to the next level so it was time to move on rather than recommit, but he got a lot more out of this roster than we gave him credit for.

It's like dumping your girlfriend because she gave solid, but boring BJ's to go out with this other girl that promises exciting new school BJ techniques, but come to find out not only does the new girl uses way too much teeth but she also blames you for it and now you miss the old boring BJ's.

Do you know what "upward trajectory" means?

The question is if those 2 months of 50 win ball were a mirage. Just because they happened at the end of the season doesn't necessarily mean they going to continue to play that well going forward. Think back to the hot start in 2010 and how they played after going 12-1.

One thing not in question- the players liked Monty. They fought for him, to presumably save his job. Can't imagine canning him after reaching the playoffs so they can change everything up sat too well in the locker room. These are pros, but they also are humans too

Big lesson here: changing coaches is not a cure all.

Grass isn't always greener and a coach doesn't have as much control over a situation as we like to think.

ETA: I think the most humorous part of this is the knee jerk reaction. Anything goes wrong "Fire x" This is what people did for Monty and what they're doing now. There's room to call a shitty performance a shitty performance without saying a coach must be fired immediately

True. Demps has had years to build a team from scratch with a boost from the lottery gods.

To be fair, the Pels snuck in the playoffs almost by default with the OKC injuries and PHO bowing out by trading key pieces. The rest of the conference was tanking.

At this point I think it's fair to say the way this team is built Isn't conducive to sustained success

frick that contract. I'ld buy the whole club along with the saints and throw rediculous money at respectable and proven staffs. Get with the state and league officials on how to permanently tie the teams to the state where they can never be relocated.

Forbes list the saints value at 1.52 billion Pelicans around 650 million so how do you plan to pull off buying the pels and saints?

I would buy a portion of the Pels (%20-25), but I wouldn't fire Gentry right off the bat. I would fire Demps, and hire the GSW Assistant GM. I would then give Gentry until Jan. 1st 2017 to show me something.

Bring Schlenk in! That would take some vision, which means it won't happen.

I think we can all agree though that we have to rebuild and do it right this time around. Acquire draft picks, bring in young players, let them grow, bring in good Free Agents when the time is right at positions of need (not duplicating), increase the bball IQ on the team.

Acquire assets in the off chance a star player becomes available (a la what the Clips did with CP3, Houston with Harden/Howard, etc).

We've got 4-5 years. Start now. Clock is ticking.

No, I'd buy the team and then we can have legit discussions on here on who to hire and trade for. Nobody's job would be safe except AD

If you won the Lottery, please buy the team and make TigerinAtl the GM. I'll settle for a college scouting position.
