OK, so you want to:
a) Trade a fringe 6th man of the year player + the potential 2012/13 NBA assists leaders on contracts that have a combined 5 years/$30m remaining for a "valuable expiring"
b) have Gasol, on his last legs, mentor Davis for a season (this is the "big" payoff)
c) be limited with our options in 2013/14 because Gasol's contract ate up our flexibility
d) after probably missing the playoffs and letting Gasol walk, we have the privilege of taking our newfound capspace to do some combo of: overpaying FA's to come here (as we have to do in this market), trading for overpaid players on other teams that don't want to take salary back, and crossing our fingers that Demps can find some gems like, I don't know, Ryan Anderson and Greivis Vasquez
That article was written over 2 months ago and you forgot this nugget..
Wow, quite the nugget. Dude, Ryno and Gasol's contracts are fricking $10m apart this season. We are right up against the cap, meaning we would have to include $10m in contracts along with Anderson in the Gasol trade. Now play around with our player salaries, come up with a trade that works, and let me know if you think an already horse shite trade rumor looks more or less likely than it did before you read this post.
