Although slowly, AD23 improved every year under him and our record improved every year. At the time, we were irate at how Monty just stood there while Steph put up an unreal show, but that's just how good that guy is. Nobody that year was going to stop him. As someone else noted, we had one playoff appearance in 7 years, and that's when we fired our coach?

Monty is a good man, and I hate what happened to his wife in Oklahoma. All I'll say is that things could've been a lot different and a lot better right now. At this rate, we will be 0-82 and I can't blame Davis for ever wanting to jump ship. He's getting payed big bucks, but at some point, he's going to want wins for his legacy. Change must be made very soon

There were plenty of times when I didn't agree with his decisions/strategies, and wanted him gone. However, looking back it at, it's difficult to deny that they guy got a lot out of the shite rosters that he was given. I do think it was time for a new direction at the time of his departure.

On a personal level, he seems like a great guy. I'm glad to see him in his current role with the Spurs, and I hope to see him get another chance as a HC somewhere.

God I hate threads like this, 90% on this board wanted Monty fired.

It's sad what happened to Monty, but he was considered a bottom 5 coach when he was with us. Just because we hired another bottom 5 coach doesnt mean Monty was good.

He seemed to have a lot of the intangible aspects of coaching down that you want, but his overall philosophy and system needed some serious updating IMO. Because of that I think he had a very real ceiling on how good his teams could ever be barring getting a Big 3 or something.

I think going back to the Spurs will be good for him.

I forgot he went back to San Antonio. Glad he's back around Pop.

Tonight's debacle only makes me miss Monty more. He eeked out these ugly wins

They need to go get Ettore Messina yesterday - with Ferry as our GM they could recreate he magic from the Hawks with a higher ceiling

We improved every year with Monty and then finally made the playoffs and he got shitcanned. For fricking Gentry. Brilliant

At this point I honestly think we can pick out a fan to coach this team each night and get better results.

No, Picking Gentry over much more qualified people because they wanted to go cheap is why we are getting what we deserved.

And the other 10% were screaming from the rooftops that he wasn't the problem. It was plain as day back then that Dell was the problem, but Joe Fan was too blind to see past the bench, even when the bench was filled 3 to 12 with scrubs.

Maybe by the retards on here, but most national folks realized that he was playing against a loaded deck.

Go back and look at the players that improved under Monty. Go back and look at the roster that he brought to the playoffs, even as an 8 seed.

Are you serious? A lot of respected basketball minds used to shite on Monty. You seriously don't remember that?

After game 3 vs the Warriors people called Monty a joke. It was really bad

Both are bottom 3-5 coaches in the league. I don't miss Monty and certainly won't miss Gentry when he's gone.

Monty was not the answer for the Pels either but at least the team played defense.
