How would you feel about trading our 2017 pick for another 1st this year?

We are going to need a better and/or cheaper center than Asik eventually. This draft looks pretty deep in bigs. There are multiple teams with more 1sts than they are likely to use. Trade a 2nd and a X protected future 1st with Denver. The X being if we get their 15 it's a top 14 protected pick, if we get their 19 it's a top 18 protected pick.

Denver's value is a 2nd in a "deep" draft and shifting a 1st to the future instead of having to draft 3 1st rounders this year. Everyone wants to draft the next Kawhi, but assuming we return to the playoffs next year, the most likely impact use of a mid teens pick would be a center IMO. Drafted centers usually take a little time to develop, so why draft one in 2017 rather than this year?

Depending on the protection, I could possibly get on board with it.

I'm weary of trading away draft picks and I'm also weary of this FO in the draft. Damned either way.

ETA: ATL, what centers would you be looking at in this hypothetical?

Unless it was fairly heavily protected, I would not do it. Next year's draft is supposed to be much better.

Only problem I have with that is the fact that next years draft class has been talked about for the past 3 years. It's suppose to be absolutely stacked with talent. I'd do a 2018 first but 2017 would need to be a good haul for me to be ok with giving it up

I think you remain open to every possible and if someone you LOVE and even considered taking at 6 begins to plummet like Kawhi did, then you do it. Example - They take Murray or Hield and Bender is still sitting there at the end of the lotto because he didn't work out for anyone there, and they are scared to pull the trigger, then yes I would do it.

I would have to love the guy at 15 and I would need lottery protection, at least, to send out another 1st.

In general, I like the idea of moving back for an extra pick. Just don't feel super great about the options at 6.

If Boston gets antsy and you can walk out of the draft w/ some combo of Sabonis/Davis/Prince/Valentine/Jackson/Bembry at 16 and 23, plus even a guy like Rozier/Hunter/Young or Jerebko, let alone Bradley, that's a nice haul for a team as talent starved as the Pels.

It would have to be either Bender or Brown who drop way down to 15 for me to even consider it.

But even still in that scenario I would think we wouldn't be the only offer to trade, so we would probably have to give up more than what you stated. So even then, probably no. Just in general it seems like trading never works out for us, so if we can avoid doing the things that never work out for us.... who knows, maybe that would work out for us.

Depends on where the pick is and who falls. Right now, I am hoping for Jamal Murray or Kris Dunn to be the selection at 6. If Hield, Brown, Bender are gone, then no thanks and just move on.

We are gonna suck again, so like previous comments, without serious protection I can't support this move.

GFY...

Next year is pretty thin for centers. I guess it depends on what you can get. If you can get Bender then yes. If you can trade it for Okafor, then yes. If it's for Poeltl or Labissiere then it depends on how much you believe they can develop. After that, you may want to hold the pick.

In light of the Hawks having 12/21 now and possibly wanting to maximize cap space, what future picks would you give up for 12/21 this year? Does anyone have a problem trading a lottery or top 10 protected 2017 pick plus our 2 2nds this year plus the Philly 2nd next year? What if the Philly 2nd became a lottery protected 2019 1st? The 2019 1st isn't likely to help you keep AD, but someone you draft this year just might.

If we could snag one of those two plus draft one of Hield/Murray, that's a great core addition to AD & Holiday. I'd do that in a heartbeat
