To me it just seems like AD plays hard when he wants to. I don't see the killer instinct from him night in and night out. The game against Utah was a perfect example. He seemed lethargic and disengaged.

Has there ever been another superstar that would only get up when they feel like it?

Suppose AD were on the Celtics the year that Walton won 6th man of year in the unfair rotation with larry/chief/McHale. Plug in AD instead of McHale. I doubt AD would have taken off 5 minutes all season.

Not having a perfect night does not equate to taking the night off. We are only human, including AD and if you're having a shite day but giving that 100% on that shite day, it's all you can ask.

Basically AD doesn't strike me as the "I'm not going for that rebound" type. More like the "frick I'm playing like shite tonight and can't get it clicking" type.

The Utah game is a great example of why Davis doesn't like this playing the 5.

Sometimes you play poorly for no real reason. We read way too much into body language.

He has off nights, but I can't recall ever seeing him mail it in.

Anyone who has played organized, competitive basketball at a high level can tell you that some nights are better than others. There's no way of knowing why (lunar cycles maybe... not really but it's as good a guess as any).

When I played there were games I could do no wrong and my stat lines looked ridiculous... Couldn't miss if I tried. Other games I couldn't make an open layup or a free throw.

It's the nature of the sport. Everyone has off nights when they play worse than they actually are, and every player has games where they play lights out and play better than they actually are when you average it all out.

My issues with him have never been about his shot going in. In fact, he normally puts up good numbers in the end. But often he is the last guy down court on both offense and defense. His rotations are lazy. He shoots more jump shots and worse picks.

Then he will play his friend KAT and all of a sudden he's one of the five best players in the league again.

I don't blame him. I get it. I too think he's often like, what's the point? But most of the great players step on any competitive court and they are looking to win. A basketball game or darts, doesn't matter. I just don't find that to be AD's MO.

Again, doesn't mean he's not a great person, a great player, or the reason we're losing. But I do find it obvious at times.

Better than not playing when healthy like the Cavs I suppose.

Bet you thought the same thing about Ben Simmons last year.
