Does Barnes address our needs?

Possibly

Is he on par with the top 3-5 guys in this draft?

Possibly, but you're also giving up Gordon for Thompson and taking on a piece of shite to make it happen.

a piece of shite that comes off of our books in 2014, when a much better crop of FAs are available.

we will finally have a legit starting 5, and plenty of salary cap space when we will actually want to use it.

I know this. I'm the person who pointed it out.

Nah, that starting 5 is no better than what we have now.

re: Hornets shopping EG10
are you fricking kidding me? Barnes is head's and tail's better than the chief, and Gordon is a sandy vag.

Barnes has the potential to be a star. Klay is a solid shooter that can provide more wing help. you are on that shit, lol.

I'm not too worried about this. Keeping Gordon the cap space would be about $15 million (with Lopez) and your needs would be starting SF and an upgrade of Vasquez. Getting Thompson and Barnes with Biedrins cuts your cap space to about $14 million with your needs just being an upgrade of Vasquez. Really Big Fish were never realistic anyway and you still have plenty of money to go after an RFA like Jennings if you're so inclined, which I know you're not, or split the money and get some really good depth.

3p% is the only part of his game that is better than Aminu. He is also turnover prone like Aminu. Aminu is a far better defender and rebounder.

The sandy vaginas are the whiny Hornicants

Barnes has the potential to be a star.

So does Austin Rivers

quote:

Klay is a solid shooter that can provide more wing help

At the expense of wing help. He is a talent downgrade from Gordon

I can smoke the dopest shite on earth and my points will still stand.

Disagree there. We need a legit rebounding center more than we need a better point. I'd concede we need an upgrade behind Vasquez, but trying to upgrade FROM Vasquez is going to be a losing proposition.

So he doesn't turn it over 1.2 times per 25 minutes of action with minimal ball-handling duties?

Jester...Barnes is a far better prospect than AFA. To argue against that is just arguing.

Broussard is on ESPNRadio right now, said it was a 10% chance that Gordon gets traded, that the offers are just too low and that the Hornets will probably hold on to him and try again this summer. We'll see.

I think there's a decent chance Rivers becomes the compliment to Vasquez that allows Vasquez to stay the starter or become the 6th man, so I'm not hot and heavy to spend big on a PG either, but the point was your available cap space only goes down $1 million while filling one of the bigger holes on the roster at SF. So I wouldn't let a year of Biedrins sour you on a deal.

Whether you like Barnes or not surely you'd agree he's as good or better a bet than a SF we could draft after 5, no? The trade I would see happening would basically be Gordon, a top 5 protected 1st and cap space next year for Thompson, Barnes and whatever an extra $10 million of cap space in 2014 will buy.

I definitely agree that he's a better prospect, but I don't think he makes us a better team. This isn't fantasy basketball. On top of the players putting up stats, they need to fill needs. With our physically weak front line, we need rebounds coming from the wings. That is where Aminu provides more value than he would in a vacuum. He fits a very specific needs. Barnes does not do that.

I know you like PER. Barnes has a PER in the 11 range, like 2.5 points lower than Aminu. Even taking away the "advanced stats," Aminu's basic stats are better.

I have not said I wouldn't take Barnes, but a "unprotected first" when we suck is too much, in my opinion. I'd do a top 3-protected for him, but not unprotected.

I just touched on this below. For me, it all goes back to the "unprotected" pick. There are only a handful of players in the league worth a top-3 pick in any draft.

ETA: below your post, above this one.

Barnes is also in his first year while AFA is in his 3rd.

Well, duh. I wouldn't do an unprotected first either, that's retard talk. Top 7 this year and top 3 next year.

I'm banking on improvements in the offseason, absolutely. An 80% games-played Gordon would make it a near lock. This scenario is foggier.

No unprotected first in this unless it is next season's. There's a limit on how many rookies one team can take anyway.

The move, to me, makes us worse next year than we'd be hanging tight with Gordon, but I see it not being a terrible drop off (10-9 with Gordon this season, 3-3 since his return without him), then more potential going forward.

That offseason is the last of this building stuff though.

Seriously. I don't mind starting over and going young, but not 3-4 years in a row.

I just think it puts us back to square one. It just seems like the type of move that puts you into a perpetual rebuild. At some point, you have to let your assets mature. There is always a cost to deals, so dealing for the sake of dealing is best for the brokers.
